I just can't get into them. Am I alone here?
Who's seen them live and are they good/bad/worth seeing?
Don't worry your pretty little head about it. They're a manly band. For manly men.
that wasn't patronising. Much.
I can do some more: I might say that someone might listen to a lot of music, but if that someone doesn't know much about music in a technical sense, they shouldn't expect to listen to Rolo Tomassi and immediately get what those songs are about.
That's directed more at those people recently, going on about how they're just noise...
...but if I'm to be patronising, can I assume you fit under that banner too?
is a very rash assumption. I don't think of them as just noise. And I'd be highly insulted if someone was to imply that my musical knowledge was a mere 'basic' understanding with no appreciation for the technical side.
So I would say:
stuff your assumption up your arse.
Why? Am I wrong?
knob jockey, I'm defending my self for the fun of it.
class them as noise?!?!?
i'd say noisy.
...but there are so many bands that do the same thing these days, its hard to tell the good from the shit. most are shit.
in the last 12 months over half the shows i played had a band that do very similar things (all without a female singer). After the first few minutes the songs always kinda float over me into oblivion! Great musicianship doesnt necessarily make great songs.
Shit musicianship ALWAYS makes shit songs.
sounds like a dissertation title there.
...are you... being sarcastic?
....really! on second thought, it proberbly would be a very interesting read! what with electroacoustic, electronic, maybe even verging on sonic youth and the noise scene.....haha also lou reed. proberbly be able to do a chapter on composition over performance. questioning principle definitions of musicianship!!!
i think in the conclusion it would proberbly be found that shit musicianship does not ALWAYS make shit songs though.
that's the problem, all the songs sound the same [shit] to me after a while. I just wondered if they offered something different live. I'll probably end up seeing them live, just to find out, and I will probably still have no interest in them.
very good band, not really at all like any of the bands on your profile, do you like anything else like them?
is very different to them not being good.
the fuck buttons are amazing. But I guess they're quite different....
Also, meet me in st louis are pretty good. But yes, this whole genre is completely new to me.
Bring me the horizon are ok...
With Rolo Tomassi, I think it's the screamo that ruins it for me. It's too much with the electro.
[don't slay me yet, though - it's new to me!!]
Rolo are a bit of a hard thing to get into if this genre isn't familiar to you. You're jumping in at the deep end.
Maybe try something like At the drive-in to start you off with hardcore style stuff. Then try some Blood Brothers. And maybe the last two dillinger escape plan albums, before you go for Rolo.
thats pretty good advice!!
still what about the locust!!! is the first album really that inexcesible?
prob just me
bands like rolo tomassi?!?
ru not just refering to the underground "scene" in england if so i could write down a few bands for ya...
after having a quick listen, I kind of agree with this...
Where are the similarities?
but you mentioned the bands. kinda seemed weird to mention them alongside one anouther apart from being the alternative underground scene in england.....god i sound like a prick..ha
as for JungleKing trencher fucking rock sad that sounds become so saturated now.
you don't sound like a prick. much. yep, pretty much a list of underground scene music that I mentioned there....
Oh my naievity...I have SO much to learn :p
Listening to Blood Brothers now - 'spit shine your black clouds'. I like!!
Listen to some Trencher, and definately see them live, you may well get it then, i have no intention of having a go at you for not liking it especially as you seem willing to explore new music, damn I don't want to sound condescending either so sorry if I do
don't be silly! You don't sound condescending at all. I'm grateful for the advice!
'the' fuck buttons, meet me in st louis and rolo tomassi are three very very different bands, so when you say 'this whole genre' you're talking about loads of different genres!!!
this has been establised. but thanks, thanks and thanks again.
