Which of Can's albums is easiest to listen to for a first-timer?
think it's called Cannabalism? go on allmusic.com and type in Can - think Cannibalism's the Best Of anyway
And maybe miss out Aumgn and Peking-O. Eventually I got to enjoy those songs a lot.
Tago Mago is the one I hear about the most. I'll get the Best Of if it's cheap.
Soon Over Babaluma sounds like it must be amazing. I seem to read about them in every book about music I read.
I know ALL about The Scorpions from my Dad.
He has an acoustic DVD of theirs (I think it may be called 'Acoustica', actually), in which the guitarist plays a flying-V acoustic guitar. My mate bought one recently, without a hint of irony.
Here's the guitar:
Monster Movie is a pretty good start point, then Tago Mago, then Ege Bamyasi.
The DVD is a goodie to pick up for cheap too...some amazing stuff on that.
That's the one my Dad got me to start with and it's amazing. Also, their Peel Sessions CD is incredible if you can find it.
Future Days. That album is the one you hear cited as an influence most often these days. But maybe that's a bad thing and you should go for one of the more "out there" ones. You should also check out Neu! 75, Ash Ra Temple (the debut) and Malesch by Agitation Free.
it's stunning. as for can i don't think it really matters where you start from, the first five or six are all gold. like most people i started with tago mago.
it's got all the hooks and grooves you need, as well as quite short songs. And it's rilly good
if you're feeling more adventurous then Tago Mago is the best, obvs
