That was simply an amazing performance. Anyone else go?
But have been put off gigging on sundays after recent travel *nightmares*.
I take it was very good.
that was absolutely awesome. it was really nice as well to be in a crowd that was so respectful, although it felt a little too respectful in places maybe. either way though, the band were just awesome, i saw them in leeds in spring '06 and thought they were fantastic, but i think this topped that.
and thank you so much again for the ticket! it was very kind of you and i am very grateful!
...that was far better than the Leeds Cockpit show of '06. Indeed, it was one of the best gigs I've been to all year, even though Will did sound like the Cookie Monster by the end of it.
(might be a slight exaggeration) and let everyone else down, I thought. At times. But then at other times, he carried them on his back, so maybe it balances out. What did they play in the encore, assuming they did one? I had to leave as soon as the main set finished.
Thought both the support acts were excellent. I'm going to research them now. Also, I might have been standing next to Vikram OceanStorm, but I'm not sure.
First they did 'A Stone' with just Will and the pedal steel player, then the rest of the band came on and they did something off the first album - might have been 'Westfall'? Great gig, although the singer was clearly shitfaced - knocked over his mic stand about three times in the first few songs...still, all adds to the fun.
i love westfall.
but sadly I wasn't there so you probably weren't :)
I established that after I said it :(
They pretty much played my perfect set. I was drunk enough to make all the people sitting down at the front stand up which meant I got to stand right at the front, which was ace. Will wimped out a couple of the high notes but apart from that I thought he was excellent.
was absolutely fricking amazing. The Luminaire seemed to be bursting at the seams with their songs...
The band were incredibly tight but looked knackered. You could tell they really meant it when they sang "I feel so broke up, I wanna go home" at the end of John Allyn Smith Sails.
As Zapster says singing in tune doesn't appear to be one of Will Sheff's favourite things but then if you've seen any of their stuff on youtube that was obvious anyway. Also his hair really annoyed me for some reason. Set list was (may be in the wrong order):
The War Criminal Rises and Speaks
A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene
Unless It's Kicks
A King and a Queen
A Girl In Port
All the Latest Toughs
So Come Back I Am Waiting
Our Life is Not A Movie or A Maybe/For Real
John Allyn Smith Sails
Couldn't have asked for much more really, especially with Westfall as the closer
I thought they were excellent. Really really impressed me. Only know the last two albums so it was nice to hear Westfall for the first time in that environment. Good stuff.
