How fantastic is 'Now You Are Pregnant'?(btw my semi-mythical lyrics are in a similar vein to that song, not as good though)
there was a detailed DiScover article on them. Hopefully you caught that, too.
it was not only referenced in the Brainlove post, it was also apparently by Emmy the Great as well, in some sort of brilliant literate-indie crossover headfuck.
I decided it sounds kind of like if the guy from Turin Brakes fronted a good band like Hefner instead of a rubbish band like Turin Brakes.
it sounded like Darren Hayman fronting Hefner, but a different type of Hefner less obsessed with young ladies. But yeah, both sides of their new double-A are superb, and soon I may stop talking to people who don't like Long Island. Dave Tattersall, that being his name, is actually in Hayman's bluegrass side project:
got them at MiMB in January :D
Been listening to them non stop this weekend, I love the Sam Cooke cover and also the John Darnielle featured track
Although, I have to say I wasn't particularly enamoured with the new album (Sophie?). But yeah, "More Street, Less T.V." is probably one of my most-played albums of the last few years.
I really like "The Hawaiian Open Mic Night" too, and the album by André Herman Düne where he only sings Wave Pix songs... and that's where my knowledge runs out. Are the other albums worth getting? And did they ever do any more stuff with John Darnielle?
