I mean that most years there is a general concensus about album of the year between 3 or 4 records.
It just got me thinking because Sound Of Silver is Uncut's album of the year (first list I've seen in the mainstream press) which for me was a 'alright' rehash of his previous stuff and something that won't really stand the test of time. Arctic Monkeys was number 2 (same problem) and PJ Harvey was number 3 (a divisive record if ever I heard one. Personally I say 'meh'). I can't think of any record that's universal 'album of the year' material this year.
Oh well. At least they acknowledged Comicopera (number 6).
