they're both good though.
I find it more consistent.
Though Lon Gisland probably wins just for having Elephant Gun on it.
flying club cup is so dissapointing, its all really samey etc, and pretty unimaginative. although still a good record. Oh and Cliquot is AMAZING.
GULAG is the best though... its so like... OUT THERE.
Used to think Flying Club Cup was more consistent, but then realized I only thought Gulag Orkestar was inconsistent because 'Scenic World' sounds like a Magnetic Fields rip-off and not because of quality-per-song capita. Flying Club Cup sounds like it'll be a grower, then fails to bear repeated listens. Gulag is actually infinitely better, and more organic too.
That said, on Lon Gisland Beirut sound most like a 'band', well on Elephant Gun and Carousel anyway, which along with Postcards From Italy are probably Zach Condon's most fully realized songs.
only samey and dissapointing because Gulag was such a breathtaking and "out there" record?
it would have been samey and disappointing anyone.
But everyone would have still liked 'Nantes'.
find it samey or disappointing at all. It shares the attribute that Sparklehorse's Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot has in my mind, that yes it is a grower, and I do appreciate it more with each listen, but it is not a record I have a major desire to listen to repeatedly, despite the fact that I find it rewarding when I do give it a spin.
for me, Flying Club Cup is RUBBISH.
i still like FCC alot, but the whole thing just fails to get me going.... its a bit dull.
And Lon Gisland kills it. Dull, samey, unimaginative...? These are silly things to be saying. Cliquot is my new favourite.
His 'My night with the prostitute from Marseille': well worth 79p.
FCC is a bit... I dunno, homogenous I guess. Doesn't have the same imagination or vision.
They are both really really good but Zach's voice sounds much better in FCC so yeah.
i think it's the worst moment of the album. does his brother sing it? well he shouldn't be allowed to sing anymore, his voice is really annoying!
i love the way beirut sound so natural even though what they're doing is completely different, but that song just sounds kind of fake to me
Owen Pallett sings it...
but I think Flying Cub Cup works better as a whole.
They both have their moments but I think Flying Club Cup is just that bit more consistent
shit that's a fundamental error. but i still don't like it
but not great. both inconsistent and far too derivative, but quite charming nonetheless
as its pretty much near perfection, but flying club cup is brilliant as well, i dont really find it dissapointing.
