who would you say was your last favourite singer/songwriter..
Ryan Adams.. then...
I used to think Elliott Smith made all other singer-songwriters redundant, but... yeah. Andrew Bird.
And most recently,http://drownedinsound.com/articles/2642014#
Drowned in Sound - Community - Music forum - the last good singer/songwriter? My Kappa Roots.
Can't get over how amazing his stuff is
right out of my mouth.
See relevant thread.
sometimes i like newsom but sometimes not.
beirut or sufjan then owen pallett
are you saying "last good" as if the well has suddenly dried up to the agreement of everyone? people like sufjan stevens, iron & wine, jens lekman, joanna newsom, beirut have only emerged in the last few years or so
the last one or so to have emerged that you thought was any good?
Thomas Hansen, who performed as St Thomas.
I only heard of him after he died on 5th sept 'o7.
Whether his songs would seem so special if I hadn't known he had just passed away I'm not sure.
He was motivated by Will OLdham and Elliot Smith but doesn't try to hard to copy.
I remember seeing him at one of the Winter Sprinter nights organised by Track & Field a few years ago. His album "Let's Grow Together" is a pretty decent lo-fi affair full of Norwegian folk with weird lyrics.
I've just been reading his biography on his own website and it's not a particularly cheerful story (www.stthomas.no/biography.html) and as we know now, it has a very sad ending.
stretching the singer/songwriter definition here ...
and my band.
