recently. my vote goes to Exit Calm.
I find the word "unsigned" utterly meanignless in any kind of modern context.
The best not very well known band I've seen recently are one from Mozzy Green, the Outdoor Types or David Cronenberg's Wife
phrasing it a little differently; a band that had not released ANYTHING on a record label when you had seen them.
There's so many small labels out that you never really know who's released anything and it's impossible to predict a band who is 'signed' will be bigger/smaller than a band who isn't.
all bands have discographies of some sort on websites/myspaces...
whether they are smaller or bigger isnt too relevant to that, its more likely to show how long a bands been together.
The Outdoor Types have done a seven inch on my label, but as there wasn't a contract, and it's more haphazard than a Dukes of Hazzard convention on prozac, I don't think they qualify as 'signed'. Likewise Mozzy Green...they've probably done about three albums, but being as they were mostly recorded at home, and not really released on proper labels or anything, I don't reckon it counts
because they were great, and one day every else will come round.
Them or Dead Dead Dead actually, they're also great, and completely inexplicably sans deal.
dead dead dead are actually a little bit rubbish. sorry.
i had a few of their tracks downloaded and it was ok but they compared themselves to the dears amongst others on their myspace which is just not true.
i live in southampton now and they play here alot and the times ive seen them i found them dull and i dont think their songs are very good.
have very different ears.
They are nothing like The Dears, though, thats true, and I'm not really sure where they might have been getting that from (but I don't think its there anymore). They're more just like a sort of cross between Fugazi and Pixies.
now under Jordon_229_2's rule Dead Dead Dead don't count, because I think they did release a single on a label once, so sorry guys, you're now out of the running.
Mentalists > Craine
Broken Records (thread elsewhere).
Banjo or Freakout.
The Monroe Transfer.
Lovvers are, technically, unsigned!
self releases count?
The Monroe Transfer.
May they rest in peace
Really good songs and she's got a really effortless voice.
Dunno if they're signed yet but I don't think they were in the Summer. They turned down an AC30 single though, so I guess they have something on the cards!
currently unsigned? i go with this.
To Extra Mile. Sun In My Pocket out in January. Good for them.
I liked them but didn't think they were outstanding.
( 3 hand made self-released EPs don't count, right ? )
( at least in France )
and you saw them before they were signed right? so counts..
Will you see him in Paris ?
Blah Blah Blah
Cats in Paris
4 or 5 Magicians
anyone can release a single them self
but 15 minutes society are good
I hear there are more tracks and imho they are worthy of us at least keeping an eye on..
