BEST NEW BAND.
and no. average indie fare, from a cursory listen.
You'll learn so.
Sorry, but I really dislike this kind of comment. They are new to almost everyone in the world. Yes they've been around for a while, but they just got signed properly and now gigging heavily and releasing more than about ten copies, so they count as NEW okay?
because they've been together a couple of years. And they hadn't even released anything yet! Or course they're bloody new, their first 7" just came out.
just ordered the 7"
I guess it's just the inferred oneupmanship of going "harrumph! wellactuallyithinkyou'llfind.." about an emerging band. Forget it.
I class them as new, even they've been around the block.
I'd say being signed 'properly' means they have a record deal that goes beyondn a single 7" or a self-released album. Something to get their songs recorded and properly distributed, reviewed in the press, put on tour etc. You know. The next level up from just gigging and chucking out a record. Even though gigging and chucking out a record is a good effort in itself!
Know how it feels?
To build your nest in bucket deals?
who supported Of Montreal in Cardiff?
If so I quite liked them and intended to buy a cd but they went and sat outside in their van so i was too scared to talk to them.
I wasn't exactly raving about them though.
Perhaps they seemed better cos Pull Tiger Tail were on immediately after.
was that the Wave Machines? Were the wave pictures the ones supporting Euros Childs at Tommy's Bar.
If so then they are very much not the best new anything.
Maybe I'll look at the article eh? might be a picture or something to clarify it?
Shall I email you the song that made me buy their album?
i'm surprised to see you raving about something so generically 'indie' though.
really boring music about nothing in particular by a bunch of disinterested twenty-somethings. Which is most of the time.
MOdern Life Is Rubbish is one of my favourite albums ever, as is His 'n' Hers! Check out my rock solid indie fan credentials!
And if The Wave Pictures make an album anywhere as good as it should be, they are contenders to join that list.
Wave Pictures supported Euros.
Wave Pictures are basically brilliant. I'm glad they're getting some proper momentum now.
the brilliance. good yes. brilliant no.
saw them on saturday and was mightily disappointed. apart from the nifty ukelele solo, they seemed like a third-rate hefner.
But there you go.
You say potato, I say you're a big gay.
I went and saw them on Friday night on a bit of a whim and thought they were wonderful.
I thought they were ace.
The amazing lyrics just keep on coming, it seems like every song has ten couplets to remember, like The Smiths.
"The last swimmers crawled up from the pool, looked at my beautiful belly and drooled."
but have loyalty here:
The people of Cardiff had been spoiled by them for the last few years before they buggered off to London.
can this band ever be described as new. Saw them supporting Herman Dune at The Social in Nottingham over four years ago and they seemed quite 'established' then.
Anyway, no point debating their 'newsness' - they seemed terrible back then, like really embarrassingly bad. But I've just listened to them on MySpace and they sound pretty good and about a completely different band and about a million times better (especially the vocals). Will try and check them out live asap. I'm actually really impressed with the vocals.
Agreed. We played with them earlier this year at some art school in Cardiff, they'd studied and played there lots before apparently and the crowd were very lovely to them. They were also very lovely to us too, so this may negate any lovelyness: we were shit and drunk. I remember being really impressed with them though. Great frontman, nice melodies...I can't remember the rest, I was busy scabbing as much of the shared rider as I could. In conclusion, I would.
Okay, glad that's settled.
You prove yourself to be a truly benevolent force in this uncertain world of ours.
'Now Your Pregnant' has left me strangely heartbroken.
I like the surreal twist on the lyrics in every song...
and I don't like the production (on Long Island).
gives it...7/10 so far. I really like the lyrical journey you go on, it's captivating in that way.
