When others do, they just put up a chopped down one...say a minute or so
What are your thorrts on this?
or it kinda defeats the purpose.
Singles are for exposure, right?
Cut down tracks are arsey. With Planningtorock had a cut down track, I wanted to put 'Changes' as my profile song, but I didn't because there was a whey gæ minute long edit.
other than the personal experience stuff, of course.
Myspace has basically eliminated the point of actually releasing singles as physical objects, unless of course you don't put them on your album. You may as well just distribute to radio stations and review sites and stuff and then just direct people to a free download from your myspace or wherever, it would probably make you more money in the long-run in fact due to the widespread fan-cementing it would do if your song was any good. (see Black Kids, and, to a lesser extent because You Me Dancing was eventually released as a proper single I believe, Los Campesinos)
I'm a very giving guy. It's not downloadable on there though.
My main feeling with a single, unlike an album, is that the main aim is to get it out, get reviews and let people hear your music and obviously if they can't hear your music that kind of defeats the object.
Plus I have ace b-sides!
I don't know what I'll do to be honest. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
If people like you enough they'll pay money to hear your stuff. If they don't like you enough they'll just get it free somehow.
If they don't like you they won't bother getting your music - free or otherwise.
If they just 'like' your music they might find it for free.
If they fuggin' LOVE your music they will pay for it.
Them's the breaks.
That's what I meant. You're riding high in my Last.FM top ten again this week.
Oh so I'm supposed read your fucking posts before replying now am I? Whatever!
because our single, as most physical release singles are these days, limited edition collectors edition things. There are 500 of them, and they should sell out given a bit of time (good christmas present by the way, order from www.myspace.com/4or5magicians !), and having it on myspace should help them sell.
If your only form of selling it is itunes, then it doesnt really make sense to have the full version on myspace as who would pay for it if they can listen for free?
But you make music for it to be heard so let it be heard is my opinion, so I'd always have the full version up. Snippets annoy me.
PS. Yeah! Horsebox rocks!
