I'm doing a set of music just from france so I need some French music so who is your favourite French band/musician?
BERG SANS NIPPLE
all songs involving accordians
Jacques Brel Belgian?
my own rules and allow belgium just because I wanna play Soulwax
who knows the most about belgian musicians?
Jacques Brel was Belgian! Flemish was his mother tongue! I guess the french language was just a more attractive option with regards to singing
or just Francophone? Because Malajube, innit.
well, it's her or Jordy.
he aint bad
was easily the best french band ever.
You NEED to listen to them.
For current artists :
Jules was his father and a movie director.
I don't know this song but Joe Dassin was usually awful so I never tried to listen much...
Comparisons with Tom Jones are actually bad for Tom Jones but not inaccurate !
30s of most of his best known hits should be enough...
I've got a Joe Dassin lp somewhere
This one...it's pretty poor
a French citizen, but if he's not allowed, I'd go for the old Saian Supa Crew.
are pretty hot:
and Calc make nice french pop songs:
Amelie makes slightly odd-accented songs:
and finally, ahem, my band from Bordeaux:
are awlful, I had the misfortune to witness them the other day when they were supporting Pinback. They were like a French version of Travis
dear. That said, their live performances never were up to their recorded stuff.
Listening to your band on Myspace and liking it.
Any chance to see you in Paris someday ?
for a few months as we've had some exciting personnel changes. Glad you like what you hear though. Calc never liked our stuff.

without a doubt.
He wasn't very good ( to be polite... )
*I have a deep longing for Paris now :(
2) Sylvain Chauveau
1) Sylvain Chauveau
Kid loco- for fantastic remixs and solo stuff thats similar to The Velvet underground.
Pest sound- Wonderful deep vocals backed by sporadic and often noisy guitar. My favourite album of the year.
You can hear a track here;
he's not French. He adds you as a friend on Last.FM if he sees you listening to his stuff.
.....I have some vague recollection of him being American (or Canadian), but he may have moved to Europe. I'm 70% believing in myself, 30% unsure.
they have a new ep and album out soon that I'm looking forward to.
and Konki Duet and Orval Carlos Sibelius.
then Toy Fight, Melodium, Chapi Chapo.
& I think that's all I know/like.
im listening to them now. i want to go on a summer bike ride in paris.
you want to die ?
wont let me reply in the proper place for some reason.
Antoine, Evariste, Annie Philippe, Michel Polnareff, Jaques Dutronc, Les 5 Gentlemen
Here's a video of someone jigging about to my favourite Evariste track
ps- Lyle what are the lyrics to connais tu ...about? Does he really call dutronc a cunt?
"C'que j'pense d'Antoine et de Jacques Dutronc
Ça commence par C et ça finit par ON"
hehe...amazing! He's a professor of something now. Composes music and plays it to plants, with amazing results
or I & Fused, however it's meant to be.
france gall (french)
yann tiersen (already mentioned but ace and french)
call me poupee (montreal based)
malajube (also already mentioned but also ace and also montreal based)
and liking it. i got given the album by a french that i used to work with. i like it more now than i ever have, must be the snow outside the window and the sleeping beauty in my bed. i take back all the bad things people say about the french and france. right now the language and the romanticism seem more magical than ever before.
Why are people naming Canadian bands who come from Montreal?
If I asked what your favourite English band / musician was, does that mean you're allowed to answer Nick Cave, because he sings in English.
i don't think it was you that started this thread. i'm not sure you set up any ground rules. also i think that people have highlighted the fact the montreal bands that sing in french may or may not count. nick cave is australian and lives in england. and sings in english.
malajube are french canadian. ask them if they are french and they will say yes. not french from france but french. at work (in the french area of winnipeg) i constantly get asked by customers if i am french. i am not, i am english. they are not asking if i am from france. they are asking if i am french.
He's an icon to me. A true idol.
Vive La Fete have got to win. If you don't know it, go to their myspace page and listen to Noir Desire - spectacular, sexy, french pop with a screaming blonde murderer (its true) on vocals.
Tiersen , all the way
