Mine: MoHa! - Norwegianism
i only listened to it once.
and its odd cos i know i really love one or two of the songs, but i just cant bring myself to listen to it
What a letdown! :-(
in that Deep Elm Records offer.
But Battles 'Mirrored'. I can't see what all the fuss is about. Apart from 'Atlas' which is pretty good the rest of it is boring, clinical and too soulless. Maybe I need to see them live or something...
LISTEN THE MOTHERFUCKIN DRUMS
either Stylus or P4K were waxing lyrical about how it's a perfect example of actual musicians trying to sound as inhuman as possible
And i certainly wouldn't say it's boring.. but on the other hand, i like music a lot might think was "boring" (jazz-fusion anyone?)
Deep Elm stuff then? I made a promise to myself I would....but I'm struggling. Only been through a few of the free comps, which were all quite good. The stuff I actually bought from them (Latterman, Small Arms Dealer, Burns Out Bright) were all great though!
at lot of them got lost when i moved.
i think the nadir was a CD by a band called "drive til morning", which is what is basically the sound of a generic 2nd-gen emo band making an alt country record. it's horrific.
but I quite like it. Palmtrees Sway, I think is the title. The guy's got a really annoying way of pushing each syllable he sings, but the strings on that track are just lush.
Orange and yellow artwork, right? I'll give it a listen.
Apart from The Desert City Soundtrack and Appleseed Cast albums I wanted, there was some such truly awful stuff that I still haven't listened to 8 of them.
And one of those i did listen to was blank
Palmtrees swing might have been ok but the continuous da-ding gives me a headache.
i kept three of the twenty one or whatever. the three i bought in the first place
I dont know how this could be anybodys worst album, not as good as funeral i agree but still a great album & one of the best of the year for me.
humourless, did I mention boring?
i thought it was better than funeral
listened to it lots but alas, just can't get into it.
it's just really average
Sarah Nixey: Sing, Memory
Maximo Park: Our Earthly Pleasures
The Rakes: Ten New Messages
Jamie T: Panic Prevention
is really good.
not quite as catchy, but its lyrically a bit 'deeper'.
about the Sarah Nixey...
The Warlocks Heavy Deavy Skull Lover.
I've only bought about four or five albums this year, and they're all ace, that's just the weakest of them.
Can't seem to get into it but i'll persevere an hopefully it'll finally click
is a much better album in my opinion than their 'proper' full length 'Behold Secret Kingdom'.
Give it a listen maybe?
A Weekend In The City (didn't like it one bit. Not in the same league as Silent Alarm)
Drums and Guns. (Can't listen to more than 5 minutes without wanting to rip my own head off. Disappointing as I love Low.)
On the whole though, this year has been a good year for record purchases.
I wouldnt say It's terrible and its certanly better than Warnings/Promises, but half the album is just filler. Having said that it does have some brill songs on (esp Competition for the Worst Time).
the drums and guns hate
it but I just don't. I find it pretty inpenetrable.
i never really paid Low much attention before but i got drums and guns and i really like it!
But the goto80 album 'Made On The Internet' was a bit of a let down.
Nebbie- can I have your MoHa! album?
How does I go about sharing?
What do I get out of it? :o)
been a massive fan of the early stuff, but Drums & Guns is one of my albums of the year
opposite. Love everything up until this. I think I'm on my own here, but hey ho.
is it not good then?
I've lost track of time.
but we have a MASSIVE difference of opinion here.
I shall try and give it another go, but...I've tried. I'm sorry.
good. it's like the debut but with 'The Funeral' on it.
I made rather a fool of myself there. *shoots self in face*
by Stephen Stills
damn you AMG rave-review, damn you!
Mirrored for sure.
I still really like the B ep, but the album just sounds like Goldfrapp. Loads of farty noises. Still good live, but dull on record. The less they sound like Don Caballero the worse they get! That track Tonto is good though.
People still buy music?!
-10 indie points.
They equate to a minus number.
+10 indie points.
First (and only) time I put it on just hoped the neighbours wouldn't hear it. I think it sounds like some sort of awful rediscovered pretentious 70's prog band noodling session. I've noticed that it is top or almost top of the Brighton end of year indie record shop's charts which kind of says it all actually.
Unlistenable crap! Anyone want a free cd?
i bought it with no prior listening because of the Diplo connection, and i haven't been particularly impressed. Not mega bad, but certainly not great
In all i've had a good year for purchases (although i'm sure i've blanked something out)
What the fuck are indie points?! And how can they be sarcastic?! Ridiculous.
Random purchase (before the Mercury nomination for the record).
Just didn't hit any of me buttons I'm afraid!
A great Listen in checking stuff on t'internet before committing the cash!
I should have known given the fact most reviews/people who'd heard it slated it, but I was all like "ah whatever, i loved the first two, what do they know". More than me, it seems-what a horrible record.
thats ridonculus!! wot was wrong with our love to admire????
Sounded like a bad re-hash of the last record but with none of the tunes. I found it completely soulless. A band who’ve run flat out of ideas.
I loved the first two Interpol albums, but this was their most consistent album to date. It was like a mix of all the best parts from the previous two. I couldn't understand all the critisism personally.
liars - drums not dead
is an amazing album. Douchebag, I'll have the Battles album if you don't want it!
and I can't seem to cotton to the Go Team either.
is probably the worst I've bought, it's just so hotch-potch. Veers from dull country to bog standard RAWK out to samey jerky indie. Very amateur-ish which is a shame because I did enjoy them live supporting 'Band of Horses'.
Love this band but really, really poor album. Very disappointing.
I've enjoyed all of the stuff I bought this year. Erm... I had some real shockers sent to me for review, that's for sure.
anyone who bought the Radiohead album was disqualified already.
Yeah, radiohead are shit! fucking shit!
Their album was free! Fucking free!
I hate that album so much.
You must be an idiot. I will be sure to ignore all of your opinions from now on.
What a let down. After the masterpiece that was I'm Wide Awake, and the new possibilities that Digital Ash brought forward, I was expecting something better.
But then it has been a year of disappointing "BIG" name albums.
bar about 2 half decent tunes on the album
with the pumpkins - I bet I know which 2 tracks you mean as well!
Just so boring and lyrically poor. And to think I paid about £18 for the stupid packaging.
after lifted...like bits of Digital Ash though
Didn't think much of the maccabes either. But I haven't bought anything I actively dislike, just some that don't really do anything.
apart from 'Declare Independance' it's a good record
but, then again, not very good either. File under forgettable.
what was i thinking
Bored me to tears. Fortunately i only paid a couple of quid for it. I'm giving it one more chance before it goes up on Amazon marketplace.
I'd say the Stars album too, but i didn't pay for it.
Not one track that grabbed me. A lot of my friends thought it was really good too :-S
is pretty grim.
Underworld - Oblivion with Bells.
Hundred Days Off was average but the new album is bad - what's worse is that they seem to have taken all the good bits out in an attempt to sound fashionably minimal.
I wasn't terribly impressed with the Blonde Redhead album neither.
The Lodger - Grown Ups. Their album is the equivalent to having sandpaper rubbed over your balls in the middle of a desert. *insert pic of Garfield smoking a pipe here for maximum effect*
it is bloody shite, generic indie with try-hard choruses.
I thought that was the whole point of that stupid sticker on the front.
neither was Bloc Party's latest.
I'm pretty sure i bought loads of awful shite but I can't remember for the life of me what they were. probably for the best, i guess.
an Album it does not make. Same goes for Interpol and to a slightly lesser extent Jamie T's over hyped pile of winnie the pooh.
Ripps were piss poor.
was an absolute snooze fest, The Stills 'Without Feathers' was equally dull
WHAT A FUCKING LETDOWN.
Well I bought the fourth Bluetones album this year for £1 so I win. What's really annoying about this post is people going "(insert name of band) was the worst album I bought)" and then someone else on here going "What you're a moron, that album's awesome - and I should know, I've racked up 20,000 posts on this forum", so the original poster who incidentally had just descrived an album as crap, goes "hmm, I'll give it another listen then." Make your own minds up for fucks sake!
It's all 'Ooh I've gone crazy, Ooh I will get my kids back, Oooh isn't it hard being famous, but I'm still a good shag.'
mr hudson and the library.
my brother didn't want it either. :(
other than that, i've made some good album choices this year. thankfully. discovered many old bands :)
twiddelly bollocks that goes nowhere, and thats coming from someone who occasionally enjoys his music going nowhere.
Interpols is really really frontpacked as well. I think I lose interest after track 5.
Smashing pumpkins was utter gash as well. Wow I buy alot of crap
the new capdown was definitely the the biggest let down
was the worst one i bought.I liked the single, but the album stank.
Rilo Kiley and Stars were my biggest letdowns. I expected so much more. Rilo Kiley now sound like Miami Sound Machine.
What do you think?
I expected Lavender Diamond to be better aswell.
I didn't BUY the Rilo Kiley album, nor will I ever spend another penny on that band, but they broke my heart this year. And not in the good way.
the Lavender Diamond sentiments, annoyingly they showed a fair amount of potential when I saw them live.
Never really seen what the fuss was about with Rilo Kiley
