quite enjoyed it at first
vocals grate after a while
I would've gone crazy for this. As it is, I still manage to quite like it even now
Ever seen the video for Rewind, the first real crossover UK Garage tune?
Jeez, I hear this song about four times a day. The demise of Channel U cannot come quickly enough.
I was waiting for that too :)
I love this song so much. Some journos are saying that it's an example of a new genre type thing called Niche.
So yeah, brap or something.
surely it's just the second coming of UKG now that everyone in clubland's got bored of funky house?
As is the way with these things, I await the imminent yet no doubt problematic attempt to commercialise minimal house/tech into something that makes its way into Citroen Saxo's up and down the land
but I think Heartbroken represents a departure from the UK Garage of old. It's being described as both 'Niche' and 'Speed Garage'.
well done desk jockey journos.
is a club genre which has been very popular in places like Sheffield for a few years. It's essentialy speed garage with more r'n'b vocals and beefier wobbly basslines. It stupid silly fun but there's alot of dross.
Funky/UK house is popular in the South and London. It's mostly made by US/foriegn producers but is starting to be picked up (like garage was) and made by urban Londoners. There's potential for some interesting stuff - i've heard tracks that incorporate Soca rythms - but at the moment its mostly waste wine bar type shit.
I love this song, who wants to go see T2 at Dirty Canvas on friday?
The vocals tick every 'what were they thinking?' box imaginable.
In the car at the beginning
broadcast from the back streets of Ladbroke Grove.
I LOVED IT back in the day... but like, proper stuff maaaan... none of that commercial shit that eventually hit the airwaves....
Haterz, by name of band, also good, yeah?
BYE FOR NOW.
according to my music journo contacts.
WHY CHANGE THE NAME OF A MUSICAL GENRE?????????? Stooopid...
He'd question what we call it. Admittedly he ended up settling on 'eski', which wouldn't lead us anywhere.
for ages. Niche was the name of a club in Sheffield innit. And it is a slight deviation from speed garage in terms of aesthetic, basslines & geography so maybe it warrants a new name.
that is all.
