Can't decide between Low - 'words' and the Cure - 'Faith'.

  • Re: All time favourite song

as an actual song and not some kraut-rock epic or a rap record or whatever, i might be inclined to say "Hospital" by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers.
    Or maybe "Sweet Jane"...

i dunno, this is too hard anyway.

    • Re: All time favourite song

Why can't rap records consist of 'actual songs'???

      • Re: All time favourite song

well, it's not quite a 'song' then, is it? seeing as he's rapping.

i'll say memory lane by nas then...or maxine by ghostface or something...too hard.

        • Re: All time favourite song

You don't have to 'sing' for it to be a 'song' do you? Or are instrumentals just that? Did Gil Scott Heron not right songs? Didn't the bomb squad?

Ahh D'yah (sic) by the Goats, Liquid Swords by the Gza, Winter of the Long Hot summer by the Disposable Heroes, That's how I'm livin' by Ice T... yeah, there are way too many.

What's with sing, sang, song, sung anway? Why no seng?

Probably E-Bow The Letter by REM or Jesus Etc by Wilco. Inevitably, special memories attached to both of those.

When i was younger (late teens, early twentys) i thought 'Crowds' by Bauhaus was the greatest song i had ever heard. It remained my favorite for a good 5 or 6 years. I no longer think it is, but i listen to so much diverse music now, that picking a single tune is impossible!

        • Re: All time favourite song

When I made myself a list of my favourite 50 songs ever a while ago, the top five came out like this:

          1. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
          2. Fugazi - Shut The Door
          3. Radiohead - Paranoid Android
          4. Bjork - Joga
          5. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat

That has probably changed by now.

Good to see another Elbow choice on.

Mine is Newborn by Elbow with this section being my favourite ever -

          Scream in the night
          Kick and skrike
          Holding me shaking
          Awake in the dark
          All of these promises
          Kept and unbroken
          Tracing the scars
          Tracing the scars
          Even and cold
          As we both become older.
          Your arms bound about me
          The hush in your voice.
          The warmth of your fingers
          Entwined around mine
In the eve of our lives
          Never a choice.

If you're forcing me to choose at gunpoint (which i assume you are), I'm going to go with Luau by Drive Like Jehu. Hell, it's long enough to be 3 songs.

I now also love that, thanks to Mr Kleeb and his magical mix CD. Spread the word!

My favourite song of all time is probably either The Good Life by Weezer or Drive by REM (depending on mood).

Is that the one with the line about a kid with a golden arm (or something that sounds like it)? If so, I like it a lot.

pure rock fury - clutch (rockingest song ever)
better than this - onelinedrawing/new end original (lovely)

both deffinately up right up there

Faith No More's Angel Dust is my all time favourite album, and choosing a favourite song of it is impossible. I might be tempted to say Midlife Crisis. Or Jizzlobber. Or Crack Hitler or Kindergarten...

Probably 'Spider in the Snow'- Dismemberment Plan or 'In the Fade'- QOTSA. But who knows, that's a hard one.

Mine haven't changed in about 3 months:

                  Franz Ferdinand - Van Tango
                  Interpol - NYC

By the way, out of interest, does anyone know what number NYC got in the charts when it was released?

65, originally as a B-side to 'Say Hello to the Angels'

Dunno if it was re-released or anything though.
