Be thankful that you don't live there, where laws specify 30% of radio music must be Canadian music, and about half that is dedicated to their torturous tunes.
And worse, there's plenty of people who've been brainwashed to believe they're actually good.
The radio stations are much more diverse here. In the larger centers there might be some local stations dedicated to more alternative stuff, but nothing nation-wide like Radio 1 or whatever.
Also, the national music tv channel only dedicates one hour per *week* to alternative stuff.
but not the other two. I found that if you lived in a small center, unless you were quite dedicated to discovering bands via the net, you were limited to mainstream stuff. I can't even remember a BSS song on our local station, and they're far from obscure.
isn't that
self evident?
Nickelback are the reason I left Canada

I liked Our Lady Peace's early stuff...
...everything from Naveed to Spiritual Machines.
so does that mean
10% Celine Dion, 10% Billy Talent, 5% Nickleback, 4% Arcade Fire and 1% Dears?
I do not understand.
But sure, absolutely!
Nope
Lots of Rush and Brian Adams, maybe an Arcade Fire song if you were veerrry lucky. The Dears would have been too obscure for our radio station.
oooooh
I understand now.
There's lots of great Canadian bands, surely they get some airplay.
Not as much as you'd think

do Billy Talent get played much?
They're one of Canada's biggest rock bands right?
Our Lady Peace are waaay bigger.
Surely...
I wouldn't mind having
Billy Talent, The Bronx or Between The Buried and Me being play. Those are some pretty decent Canadian bands..
As for Nickelback... well, isn't that a surprise.
the bronx?
i didn't realise los angeles was a canadian city.
Whoops
I meant Cancer Bats
Billy Talent got some play

What about
Metric, Feist, Buck 65, Hidden Cameras & Hawksley Workman?
How are Kittie
getting on in their native land?
