Any lovers on here? :)
no thank fuck :)
I'm afraid that GY!BE bore me slightly though.
and yet he likes explosions inthe sky
I'm getting there with GY!BE. I think the problem is I don't own Lift Yr Skinny Fists, and I really don't care that much for strings.
They're the kind of band I really WANT to love, but I'm struggling right now. I'll get there in the end.
Sure, give things a second or third listen and sometimes they reward. And sometimes your taste is different to other people.
Not meant as an attack. Just interested.
I fucking LOVE Godspeed.
Like, with godspeed there's a lot of components I really love, but the whole thing kind of doesn't fit for me right now.
That's what happened with Sonic Youth and TV On The Radio pretty much, as in I loved bits of it and the idea, but didn't quite get the way it was put together. Now, they're two of my favourite ever bands, cause I put effort in.
I was also rewarded by perservering with T.V On The Radio, I didn't take to them immediately.
You shouldn't give up on a band just because they don't grab you straight away.
There is no doubt that Godspeed reward extra listens. I just don't understand WANTING to love a band. I bought the last Tv on the Radio album (on the strength of Dis user review)gave it time but it didn't sit with me. I may give it another go in the future but if I still don't like I won't force anything.
was porbably a bad choice of words, and meant he wanted to give it a few more listens to see what it's all about
Mono are my favourite post rock band, by the by
and EITS are rather boring
i dunno how one can say that, but they don't grab me like mono, i suppose it's cos i saw mono live before seeing any of their albums
when i got the first album i didn't 'get it' for AGES. now i fucking love it!
GY!BE too to a certain extent. you have to be in a certain mood to listen to it i think, and be prepared to be patient and actually listen to it too.
this thread's going to be full of people saying 'post rock's dull dull dull' and then other people saying 'no it's not, i love <enter name of band who aren't post rock at all here>'.
but yeah, i like some bands that have post rock influences.
I love Godspeed but only at certain times, Post rock is amazingly fantastic, but like all things good, it should be consumed in moderation. :)
of post rock, might as well plug my band (i know, i know, shoot me) thats doing some instrumental stuff at the moment until we get a new drummer...
like post rock and haven't heard Lift To Experience's 'Texas Jerusalem Crossroads' you really REALLY should sort it out.
a lot of it is as generic and formulaic than a whole army of californian ska punk rock bands.
'as an' not 'than'
i hate those ska punk bands!
but yes i agree, with all genres you get generic copy bands minus the talent
and yes those bands are rather fantastic, as is Last.fm for finding them :)
People who use this label are, a lot of the time, so picky about what is and what isn't 'post rock' Erugh.
A Silver Mt. Zion
Because Of Ghost
Sparrows Swarm and Sing
Are all pretty good.
ONE NOTE FOR 2 MINUTES
MAYBE A BIT OF PERCUSSION
SLOW BUILDUP OVER AN HOUR WITH TWO NOTES
Ask a better question.
doesnt it? im not picky about what i call 'post rock' at all, but its an easy collective term such as 'indie' or 'dance' etc. if you're moaning about me calling it 'post rock' then surely you're the one thats 'picky'
what was that youtube link you posted ages ago to a guy playing two guitars at the same time? its been bugging me for ages.
I remember fervently defending post rock in the last "post rock is rubbish" thread.
I still hold this position that a lot of it is great, but i havnt listened to any music like that in ages. I just cant be bothered these days.
You bunch of cunts.
Explosions int'Sky (a northern take)
And I'm crossing over into Math Rock as well with 65days.
is how i used to think of them
a bad thing. But it is pretty true.
what counts as 'post rock'.
having said that i just had a mono weekend, it's ace.
should be interesting seeing them in a couple of weeks: i'm guessing it could either be slightly dull live or absolutely immense.
= huge immense atmospheric sounds, usually instrumental, made by bands that own many delay and reverb pedals :)
but then it peaked with skinny fists and I went off it. Had abit of a revival of late and been loving gregor samsa, shipping news and the for carnation. Don't have much time for Maserati or EITS, too generic.
all the usual suspects...
Not really got into Explosions in the Sky though... not sure why that is... Fucking love Slint though...
see (for me) GY!BE, mono, mogwai etc.
but i really do not have much time for bands like Explosions in the sky, who seem to build on a very simple arpegiated 4/4 rythm oer and over again with a rigid formluar.
hope opf the states are considered post rock. i like the black amnesias but the rest of that album has way more troughs than peaks. a bit overwrought i reck.
explosions in the sky
godspeed you! black emperor
the album leaf
...as the poets affirm
do make say think
Do Make Say Think
I forgot about them, good call.
are worth a crack.
tagged as post-rock.
And I like Explosions In The Sky a whole lot, even if they are derivative
i quite like this new band
you should probably try them.
