Am i the only one that thinks the second half of the album is better than the first?
there are a few different versions of the classic My War released in 1983 on SST. But in my experience the original nine track vinyl which I imagine you mean is more widely recognised for the first few tracks (my war, cant decide, beat my head, i love you). I'm guessing you might lean more to the prog/spazzy perhaps even artsy side of BF which is great - Swinging Man rocks! but for the record i prefer the first half cos it's got I Love You - my favourite of the nine and cos Forever Time is underrated.
Another question i spend a lot of personal time pondering is: BF, the early years - Ron Reyes or Keith Morris?? It might not be as obvious a question as you might think?!?
he never really suited Flag. They just sound like a normal punk band with him.
and the Circle Jerks werent formed, LA punk wouldnt have been half of what it woz! Keith was actually an awesome song writer but couldnt always get along with Greg Ginn. Let it been known he prob did write more of the early stuff than anyone else! WASTED.
i fucking love the Circle Jerks, but those early Flag records just sound like early Circle Jerks records. Nothing wrong with that really, but they don't really sound like Black Flag.
with the circle jerks, sure
with flag? naaaaaaaaaaaah
listen to the two different versions of Police Story (*heart to death*) and try and tell me Ron's versions isnt exactly milliontimes way radder than Keiths. (track 8 > 16!)
wot album is Ron's version of Police story?!? erm..
morris sang track 8 version of PS,
chavo sang track 12 and dez did the track 16 version. ALL brilliant!
Police Story is my third fav flag tshirt also. Flag fact!
Chavo IS Ron! They called him Chavo Pederast on that record because he left in a huff so they hated him.
the lil Portarecan chap - OMFG for that SLIPPING MY MIND. I was right afterall Ron Reyes is the best at Police Story! he was alos a stand in drummer and his brother played bass in The Dicks! Why did they hate him? time to refer to my handy Get In The Van HR atuobio...
Get in the van.
That book has some of my favourite artwork ever.
I bought a BF flyer from their 1983 show at the Vex which was in the book.
'everyone loves a handsome killer'
serious work at a gallery in Denmark a couple of years ago. Pretty.... intense.
work wasn't serious, i mean SERIOUS RESPECTABLE ART, now he's a SERIOUS ARTIST
Larry Flint is a huge fan, i read.
I JUST WANT SOME SKANK I JUST WANT SOME SKANK
as my favourite lineup is with Dez on 2nd guitar and Hank on vocals. FIGURE THAT ONE OUT
for giving up the Mic to Rollins and wanting to move over to second guitar only for Greg Ginn to sack him after only three shows. Worst career move in punk?!
no, that would probably have been Ginn going from "band person" to "label-running-into-the-ground person".
CRAZY CAT MAN!!!
it's really quite impressive how fast he managed to run SST into the ground, though. considering it was probably the most respected indie label in the US from 86 - 88, and was basically dead by 1990. creative accounting ahoy!
they like, lost the right to use Black Flag under SST for a number of yearsor something?!?!? bullshit politics maaan.
when it stopped doing model aeroplane parts.
which was in like '82/'83 and why Flag didn't release any albums between '81 and '84 and then released like 17 in one year or something.
he basically ran SST into the ground by releasing hundreds of terrible free jazz records every year and by never paying anybody, so most of the labels top sellers (sonic youth, meat puppets, dinosaur jr) took legal action to recover their master tapes. GOOD WORK THERE THAT MAN.
wasn't it?!? or something like that..
you're right anyway and yeah Chavo did the best Police Story of the three on Everything Went Black (track 12) - i still cant remember where i heard Ron signing it, maybe on the Decline of Western Civilisation vid?!? meh.
(according to wikipedia). That's the main thing.
has about seventy cats.
black flag - pretty bad for your mental health?
about me, also!!
the Rollins Band though.
i had so much to say, but i kinda feel as though the moment has passed.
For the record though, i'm a massive fan of the Ron Reyes version of Revenge.
my favourite BF release.
