tell me which songs/album I should hear first to see if I like 'em.
to Bowl of Oranges, Lua and Waste of Paint...
listen to fullerov. and listen to four winds as well, one of my favourite songs at the moment.
I decided to check out some of his stuff on the back of "bowl of oranges" (a song i still quite like) and found the most vile, unpleasant songwriter in the history of recorded music (case in point "Lover I Don't Have To Love"). Avoid. Listen to some good music, there's lots of it around.
but i think its quite clear the person wants to listen to some, so you saying its shit isnt exactly productive.
"i think he's shit", i'm saying he's the nadir of modern existance, emblematic of everything that is wrong with modern society.
they want to listen to music by bright eyes. stop wingeing about it.
I wish somebody would say that to Conor...
point out a typo and make an unfunny inane comment.
and conor oberst is an inspiration. People are quick to say 'self pitying' and depressing but his world view is such a positive one, and all the sadness is through a sense of loss about nothing being permanant and things not living up to idealism. He knows how things make him look but says them anyway because he is ridiculously honest, about himself, his motives and hypocracies and 'lover I don't have to love' is part of that and not a typical song. What about 'entry way song' a song about how much he loves his father, or 'a celebration upon completion'about love for his grandparents, and so many other songs about friendship and community. He is not perfect he is flawed he would be the first to admit that but far from being the nadir of modern existance I think his music is quite utopian. </rant>
Lover....is probably one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs.
My opinion is that you are talking Bullshit.
It's the most lyrically trite, inane piece of shit.
I think Conor Oberst is one of the best lyricists in the world. You don't, that's cool.
I guess end of discussion...
then popular music as a literary form is null and void. Hollow, self pitying nonsense.
Your back's against the wall,
There's no-one home to call,
You're forgetting who you are,
You can't stop crying.
is something people do, and is something conor does that is represented in his work, but there are so many concepts he addresses and he is extremely skilled with language.
he eloquently wraps up debating the existance of god, alludes to a failed romance, questions the ability of languagee to truthful represent the world, and laments the transitory nature of existance all in a few lines at age 19.
he does far greater, more interesting things with the form than Conor could ever dream of.
is a guy who knocks out the odd good song, and collates them every half decade.
now give it a fucking rest love
is a boy genius trapped in the body of teenage angst. He'll put out a masterpiece in about 6 years from now.
So if he's a bit too self-indulgent for me to give BE regular listens now, I still enjoy the odd times when I do. I can't recall any of his tracks by name... so ultimately I am no help. Listen to fullerov, I guess.
either Lifted or I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning to start. I wouldn't recommend anything earlier unless you're an actual fan.
