anybody else's link not working?
perhaps it's because i didn't pay and it's a long windy joke; yet it seems legit.
if he'd called it something else, i would have considered paying
seems to be working fine.
did you pay for it?
but i'd buy it on 12" and a t-shirt (tho he never seems to have any at the shows I've been to) and I've bought all his books, plus i'll probably do a review if i can play it twice before mike gets to the office and pen something, i may also do something positive and get feckers buying his last two brilliant albums.
this, for me at least, is a billion times more exciting than another radiohead album. anyone else feel the same?
just cos i'm curious about the production and the concept
its downloading at 190 kbps...oooo.....
black history month is....
the link wasn't working, then i tried to refresh and now it's telling me that i have already claimed my album.
in rainbows > niggytardust
well, my link has now been reset, and it still won't work, torrentsites here i come..
maybe you've got some pop-up block or something? i had it within 20seconds of reading your post which reminded me it was available today.
what the crunk.
Never heard his music before but have heard many recommendations. If I like it, I'll get the paid version.
I grabbed 192kbps.
So far I'm not hating it and not really loving it. It's not my sort of thing but I'm glad to be hearing it. I really liked the style of the opening track and Skin of a Drum was just playing and I liked that.
It's quite reminiscent of Seal's stuff at times, or is that just me?
Thumbs down to covering U2.
i am scared/scarred.
except maybe once on DiS Radio, please don't use me to judge it...unless you've never heard him before, maybe?
possibly the most disappointing record of the year for me.
his vocals sound dreadful, and his rhymes are surprisingly weak.
Break is just at the standard of his last album, just.
i'm a bit confused.
visual is probably the best word i could use. he sounds like a rapper (and not a good one) now, not a poet, which i always thought of him as. there is no real substance to his words.
and whats with those effects on NiggyStardust?
Nah. Only going through my second listen at the moment and after spending the day hurt and confused after my first listen, I'm starting to warm to it. I'm with you and Sean on the visual thing. The rhymes on this just aren't up to the standard of s/t and amethyst rockstar.
I really can't decide what to think. I've been looking forward this since i stopped listening to Saul Williams practically every other day, so I don't want to be dissappointed, but the more rational part of my brain is telling me that its just not as good as it should be...
There are some high points on it, mainly towards the end where he settles into a more poetic flow, but again, nothing to match his previous standards.
after the 1st listen i'm surprisingly underwhelmed.
i was sure i'd come on here and find i was the only one thinking that but seems i'm not.
still, i'll give it a couple more tries and see how it goes.
as you said later on his rhymes become more deep and the stupid effects are toned down, but still not a patch on his last two albums.
yet. guess i can always "buy" another for nothing if it doesn't show up
'No One Ever Does' definitely sounds like Seal to me and I'm not a fan of the Sunday Bloody Sunday cover but I like it more on a second listen.
For some reason it actually reminds me a bit of Bowie's 1.Outside.
today = brilliant.
6 albums for £30 for my trip away :)
if i like after a few more listens i will pay
I was expecting him to quietly top the S/T
I really really like it. Although 'niggy tardust'- pretty clumsy.
Seriously the production is brilliant.
what a load of balls. skin of a drum is about the only half decent song on it.
Is it supposed to be some kind of antichrist superstar-style concept album - like a gangster rapper 'seeing the light' and becoming street poet? that could explain the rappier stuff early on and the more spoken word stuff nearer the end... but if so it's really quite badly done.
Actually, the more i think about it, the more it reminds me of antichrist superstar both production and concept-wise. hmm. i think i need to listen again.
of the clever atmosphere stuff on antichrist its not big surprise (but i expect you know that)... i also thought he was trying to get across the concept you're talking about, but its not done well at all.
the production is the best bit about it
Still love saul, but the stuff comes across better in that spoken word video thats on the net somewhere.
due to having never heard his stuff, but wanting to try it out, and seem to have been sent a 320kbps link.
I'm very greatful, and have now decided to buy one of his albums on emusic out of decency. I'm thinking the self titled one from 2004
Just has a few more "wow" moments for me, but you really couldnt go wrong with either
but its still good enough for me, i really like no one ever does.
at the moment, having never heard him before. Four tracks in, I'm really impressed by the title track I'm hearing now. The first two tracks seemed a bit mood focussed and hook stealing, but I've got a feeling they might make more sense in terms of the whole record.
