But this really, really annoys me.
they've taken an emotionally beautiful song and used it to paste gravitas onto something completely undeserving of such soulful depth
maybe it's because i have an emotional connection to the song in question
maybe it's because Nick Drake wrote it
whatever the reason, i find it fucking appalling
I yelped at this the other week. His family getting hard up?
I don't think artists necessarily have any say in these matters. It would depend on the contract they've signed.
fat cat somewhere's hard up and decided to exploit his work.
There'll be a glut of music on their books that they'll have.
More likely whoever made the advert wanted that music and they were allowed it. Maybe they never considered how it would devastate people?
Listening to Nick drake in the car
'hey isnt this the guy off the Vicks cough syrup advert?'
I've just googled the subject.
Are you telling me that ad execs have used From the Morning, by Nick Drake, on a cough syrup advert?
In the words of Bill Hicks: they should kill themselves right now.
But hearing this has made me feel sick.
to hear them on an advert for cough medicine really doesn't make any sense.
Nick would have some self-respect and not let this happen, aye?
selling himself out, it happends to all those hidden gems eventually
it's being used to paste gravitas onto something completely undeserving of its beauty. And it was probably chosen because it fits the current advertising music criteria of "folky, not going to offend anybody, has a nice snippet of tune that will work in a ten second format" - i'd say it has been chosen for very unartistic reasons
It's great that you discovered it via the advert, but it doesn't mean that us previous fans aren't allowed to complain about its wholesale raping of something we find precious
People are used to listening to Nick Drake alone or in small groups of friends which makes it a personal experience.
When 10 seconds of his music is used to sell an item, whatever it may be, this is taken away.
The more people that listen to and enjoy Nick Drake the better.
the whole Nick Drake revival start because a song from 'Pink Moon' was used in a VW advert?
Maybe it didn't start the revival, but it definitely made him way more well known
I have yet to see this commercial. What song is it?
