Can't find anywhere where they explain why. I hope it's not the "too much competition" cop-out.
i mean, they have american apparel ads, what else could they possibly neeeeD?
Easily my favourite music website, so many brilliant pieces of journalism over the years. Does this mean they will be removing all the old content, or just stopping to update it? Because there's a vast library of incredible stuff. FUCK. How can they leave me like this?
God, this is a fucking tragedy. I'm genuinely upset
A sad day for all
so the archive will still be there, but no new content.
The writing on that site is so, so good. Balls.
There was a massive article by some pitchfork tosspot on stylus. It was awful. They were just digging their own grave by letting him on their site.
If so, lots of love forever, Chuck x
I've been using that site for years, and to me it seemed like it was getting better and better - given the supposed expansion, DiS could do a lot worse than trying to hoover up some of their writers
this is an absolute tragedy.
a good site. A really good site.
but at least the archive will stay online...that's at least SOME consolation.
Stylus was great.
i'm gutted. what reason could they possibly have?? it was perfect.
They sorta owned the all-inclusive Entertainment zine, eh? so why they're closing is a big mystery to me. Let's give Rupert Murdoch a call....
should just quit and pass the editor's torch to someone who doesn't ride the subways.
Read Todd Hutlock's article today "Dead Letter Office - The Grieving" for a bit more info. Todd (Burns) sacrificed A LOT for that site, and got virtually nothing back. The writers will survive - so far four have migrated to P4k, one here, one to LostAtSea... I was honoured to write for them for the last six months, and gutted that it ended so soon.
And look out for the pre-emptive year-end lists too, it's gonna be an exciting couple of days!
I am going to sell Dom Gourlay to Gigwise.
..that sucks. sorry to hear that pal :(
it's not some cop out like that but i'll let them explain in due course.
you may notice some of their writers have joined DiS.
cos in many ways, Stylus' less flowery prose is better than p4k (read: p4k is more fun to read though I often finish a review saying, "I still haven't a fucking clue what this album sounds like"... whereas Stylus' writers are way more... erm, grounded.)
