Anyone see it? It was pretty good.
you people move fast. yeah it was good. didn't like the gays much though did he?
I always got the impression that he was usually playing a part when performing. Whether that part directly reflected is own views is debatable.
that they said was 'mildly homophobic' wasn't it?
From the translation here, it's difficult to glean any such suggestions.
We need someone who speaks fluent French to explain if there are some less obvious indications, perhaps.
he was a mysterious character but heavily worshipped, i prefer scott walker to old dusty.
I liked that they showed full/near full songs instead of tiny clips and that it concentrated more on his music in the hour than his private life (plus anything with our Pet in makes me happy). Do you know the work of Philip Jeays? Heavily influenced by Brel. He has strong views on the translations and so on too as he speaks fluent French. I should ask him about that "homophobic" song when I next see him.
I wish they'd put subtitles on the songs, though. The DVD boxed set also neglects to do this (as does the Gainsourg one). Always seems like a wasted opportunity to get the great lyrics across. Yet they did manage to translate the song he wrote for Petula Clark, so it must have just been laziness.
Always a thrill to see the live footage of Amsterdam. The way the song ends is so powerful.
That's pretty powerful. Had me off my chair and flat on the floor.
Is amazing. Esp 'The Last Song'. Wow.
Camille's pretty good too...
