LONDON UPSET THE RHYTHM @ THE LUMINAIRE
WED 6TH FEB, 2008 7.30pm
it'll be interesting to see who's in the band for the tour...
are going to be sitting up here loving the gig with enough room to swing a cat.
to see them in Glasgow last time they were over.
they played with Alex Neilson on drums for the last song, too. bad ass.
Although I wish they were playing at the Red Rose again.
'Gettin' Gone' got 3.8 from Pitchfork.
it's probably awesome?
what a wonderfully informed review!
Anyway the first track is ace. Love that first track.
my only gripe with the record is that "text messaged" line. that hurt. everything else is GRAVY.
an upsetting ignorance regarding this band. what record should i listen to?
is the only record as The Golden Road - it's a rockier prospect than their older work; J Mascis plays drums on some tracks, John Moloney's involved... Sounds like Crazy Horse combined with a lot of Japanese psych guitar influences, 70s power trio blues stuff.
as the Bummer Road they play more of the folky side to Neil Young... i like "Mother Of Thousands" best. It's a massive double album with the second record being long reconstructions of blues standards - like a cross between "Hot Buttered Soul" and "Twin Infinitives" by Royal Trux, but still in that early Neil Young form.
Matt Valentine used to be in the Tower Recordings in the 90s... sometimes i find those old records a bit scattershot and unfocused, but his work since solo and with Erika Elder and everyone else in their collective is more thematic and drawn-out. "Mother of Thousands" is the peak for me, but it's all brilliant.
but why not read about all 56457 of them!
i bought some CDRs on their tour, and then i got the whole Deep Space Circuit 10xCDR "box" set (a piece of string is not a box) at ATP.
twice, in different packaging. the ATP edition, and the 'Euro' edition.
You couldn't even makes millions dollar from ebay with Lambsbread :(
That 10cdr string set might sell though.
Er but it's all about the music obviously
buy 20 get 10 free style deals
i want to look back at them in 30 years and wonder...
i'll get listening.
That would save me on train fare!
