And it has to be more than just one band!
I'd say last night for me (hence the idea for the thread...)
was a great night!!
it was a sweet night (but i was on the guestlist so doesnt count...)
Only thing was all those idiots who talked through most of Loney, Dear's set
That would have annoyed me. Loney, Dear are ace, but certainly the sort of band whose set could be ruined by talkative idiots.
there were a few.. but i just moved... there was loads of space on the left near stage :)
Probably seeing Man Man for a fiver, upstairs in a pub in Manchester. It was wonderful, especially since I'd gone without hearing them or knowing what to expect.
Stuckometer and Agripon was pretty awesome, nothing else springs to mind
Seeing the Strokes and Moldy Peaches in Bristol for £6 was pretty good, back in 1999 I think.
be under £10!
Fugazi, supported by Hood.
Coz it was Fugazi.
I was on the guestlist, does that count?
I knew that.
that ALSO would have been ace!
aye - that woulda been ace!
£6, in Bristol.
That was, erm, a little while ago.
So this pretty much covers bet gig I've been into in the last year or so. I'll have to think for a minute.
@ Kings College
All for just seven of your english pounds.
Was very good indeed.
i should've read your follow-up to your first message indie...
teehee.. great minds think alike.. and all that :)
Five English pounds.
Meet Me in St.Louis
Cats and cats and cats
this town needs guns
5 or 6 quid i think. amazing value
WHAT A SHOW.
best lineup i think i've ever been to.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
me 2nd ever gig at the ripe old age of 14 - I were shitting me 'sen!
If it costs more than £7 I have to totally adore the band.
Winchester, there were supports, but I don't remember who, probably Scarlet Soho :P
in leeds a couple of years ago, in the cockpit, with scissors for lefty (who were ok).
Or Kills with Futureheads supporting, just after keep on your mean side came out.
2005 - £8 iirc
That too. I saw that tour in Bristol. £8.50.
at the plug in Sheffield for £7. Cut Off Your Hands supporting we're ace too. Their lead singer ended up hanging from some roof supports on the ceiling at one point.
I think I saw Metric last year for £8 too and that was pretty snazzy. The first time I saw 65daysofstatic it was for £10 and they blew me away. To My Boy and Hot Club De Paris were supporting which was nice.
I am pretty sure my future best £10 or less gig will be Fuzztival a week on Saturday. Los Campesinos!, Pete and the Pirates, You Say Party We Say Die and a bunch of other bands over 12 hours.
most of the concerts I go to here cost 7€ so parctically everything. Best lineups for under 10£ (16€) :
Mogwai + 65dos + Wolf Eyes + Akron Family + Grails
Ray Raposa (castanets) + Marissa NAdler + Micahel Gira
PAtrick Wolf + Cocorosie
Interpol + British Sea Power + Dead Man Ray
Patrick Watson + Loney Dear + Basia Bulat
Arcade Fire + Final Fantasy
Youthmovies + liars + 65dos + Apse + others
Beirut + Twilight sad
Where do you live?!
cheap gig capital of the world. There's a lot of venues but the two main ones are sponsored by the language communities (one french, one dutch) = subsidies = very cheap gigs. And most bands go through brussels as it's pretty central.
looking forward to this:
best deal was £3 for at the drive-in + two local post-rock bands
I saw the Smiths for $2 and I saw Bowie's greatest hits tour in '90 for $10 and a slice of pizza.
Otherwise, virtually every gig I go to is less than $20 (=10#).
I saw Circa Survive for £8 the other day, Converge only cost me a tenner, and every time I've seen Meet Me In St Louis has cost me £6 or less.
But among the best are
Talbot Hotel in Stoke used to be ace
Herman Dune and Kimya Dawson for 4 quid
Saloon, The Mittens and a couple of others for 3 quid
Nina Nastasia with Lionshare at Portland Arms in Cambridge was also pretty incredible, can't remember how much it was, but it was def under a tenner
with DJ Scotch Egg
I think that was like £9.50
Also, DFA1979 at Club NME, lolz. If that counts. If it doesn't then the garage, but that wasn't as good,
Ash supported by then an unknown Placebo in Summer 1995.
who were supported by another chav-esque band who I can't recall their name. But I enjoyed the Wrong Ani-maaaaahl lot immensely.
I haven't been to a gig since then that was under ten notes.
The Victorian English Gentlemens Club
At Southampton Joiners in April
All of those bands are worth paying 7 pounds each to see let alone put them all together
my friend Dan and I put on this gig at The White Horse, High Wycombe.
December 4th, 2003.
I'd say that was pretty good value for your money.
