i never really understood the beauty of heavy guage strings
you said "gay"
I think i use 10s or 11s, thinking of going up next time i change strings. My fingers = samson
without the beard...
9 or below is for kids, pussies, and slash
can deffo get 8-38, and I'm sure I remember seeing 7s before
dropping to D on low E and then dropping the A right down to the D as well, is my absolute favourite
'not even slinky' gauge 012 - 056.
they are great. usually tune my low e down to a and rock the fuck out.
used them on these recordings...
on them when you first restring is beautiful. you feel like iron man or some shiat.
But I really can't be arsed with the truss rod adjustment to make sure my pride and joy doesn't warp...
Also, I play a 12-string... it's difficult enough as it is...
i use 24-94 gauge. basically four guitar and two bass strings. Branca styles!
Do you have to adjust the neck tension on the guitar to set it up like that?
...i use a jaguar baritone. So its got a longer neck to take the tension. Recently been using 94-84-46-46-24-24. sounds good
i used them on thissssss recording.
I don't like heavy strings.
but heavy strings! so meaty! so down tunable!
and playing complex stuff with them just takes more skill than playing on light strings, so you end up a better player
11s usually, 12s on the jazzmaster.
Thin strings are rubbish. My sister refuses to play anything heavier than 9s!
its all about the heavier guages. Light strings just sound bad
I've used elevens/twelves since I was a kid...and that began cos I couldn't afford to replace the wussy nines I was getting through a set of every week.
you reckon it has to be elevens or twelves? :D
Pretty much, yes...although now light guages just sound like utter pish, so that reason has taken over.
A guitar wont resonate properly with light guage strings on it...utter rubbish for any kind of rhythm work
