Colin's sentence-free review of 'In Rainbows' by Radiohead

crablin [Edit] [Delete] 53 replies 20:57, 4 October '07

Minimal. Sweeping. Lush. Melodic. Introspective. Melancholic. Glorious.

9.2/10 after three listens.

  • Minimal?

    Hmm....

How different is it to the last album?

    IrishMagpie | 4 Oct '07, 20:59 | X
    • the last album was VERY minimal

      lemonbrickcombo @IrishMagpie | 5 Oct '07, 01:03 | X
  • show off

    Alan_Smithee | 4 Oct '07, 21:03 | X
  • has it leaked yet?

i hope it does, how do they expect us to wait ten days?

    jp100 | 4 Oct '07, 21:07 | X
    • i hope it doesn't leak at all

i'm actually quite disappointed that Crablin has heard it already, i was hoping it would be a "no press screenings" situation. I suppose Crablin does have his fingers in too many pies. But really, wouldn't it be a lot better if none of the public heard it until the release date? Wouldn't it be more of a experience, communal and otherwise?

      Alan_Smithee @FinestLittleSpace | 4 Oct '07, 21:23 | X
      • while i'm disappointed with

what their managers have said, i don't really see the problem with releasing the record in a format that people beyond hardcore radiohead fans and music/tech nerds would be interested in is such a problem...

        guntrip @hibbert | 4 Oct '07, 22:07 | X
      • minimal AND lush eh?

        Parsefone | 4 Oct '07, 21:12 | X
        • That's a pretty high score -

what else would you rate similarly?

          MirriLondon @Parsefone | 4 Oct '07, 21:18 | X
          • he won't tell you

until you reply in the right place

            jp100 @MirriLondon | 4 Oct '07, 21:20 | X
            • hush it jp

what am i meant to do, reply directly under when other people already have? that's just rude!

              MirriLondon @jp100 | 4 Oct '07, 21:22 | X
              • you press "reply"

on the post you are replying to.

                guntrip @MirriLondon | 4 Oct '07, 21:24 | X
                • that is not my point

guntrip, i am replying directly to you - see? (jeez this had better work).
my point is, if there's a long thread when people are voicing opinions, is it not RUDE when you're the 66th person to put a direct reply under the original post?
cos i think it is. so there. the pair of you can bugger off to pedantic.com.

                  MirriLondon @guntrip | 4 Oct '07, 21:28 | X
                  • no

because that's the post you're replying to. it's nothing to do with being "pedantic", it just makes no sense to post a reply to the original post under a different one.

                    guntrip @MirriLondon | 4 Oct '07, 21:30 | X
                  • but it won't go directly under the original post

it will go right at the bottom, in line with the other replies to the original post. Try it!

                    jp100 @MirriLondon | 4 Oct '07, 21:31 | X
                    • ^

                      exactly.

f'rexample, in this thread you're asking Parsefone what he rates similarly to In Rainbows. even though he said nothing about what he rates it.

                      guntrip @jp100 | 4 Oct '07, 21:32 | X
                    • really?

oh shit! haha. why don't they put instructions on these packets ffs!
right, i'm off to find an old thread to ruin.
                      :D

Parsefone, what else would you rate similarly?

                JGJug @Parsefone | 4 Oct '07, 21:48 | X

A superb idea, well realised in the most part. The last two characters do let it down a little, showing some weakness and pandering to their perceived audience, but if freed from these shackles i feel the artist could really achieve something special. One to watch

          Alan_Smithee @team_cooper | 4 Oct '07, 21:36 | X
      • Thank god

from what i've heard i was expecting it to be sub par. I bought the box set at least, partly out of loyalty, so its good to hear it wont be terrible.

Though this is obviously just to show off you managed to hear it early. I thought they werent giving out promos and that, so everyone heard it one the same day?

        yes_ | 4 Oct '07, 21:48 | X
      • Hmm

I expect nothing less than more relentless wailing and miserabilism.

        Acquiescence @joshua_t | 4 Oct '07, 21:57 | X
        • To be fair though

the new stuff, as i heard it live, sounded ironicly coldplay-esque at points.
I really hope its not going to be so on record.

          yes_ @joshua_t | 4 Oct '07, 22:01 | X
          • I'm really looking forward to hearing the album version of "Reckoner"

you're right about the Coldplay comment though. It did get me worried at the time. I'm optimistic though.

        • I don't like that people can hear this now

It seems to... ruin the point, or something?

you'll realise that every one of the words I used was taken from quotes from the band about the album in previous news stories here and at NME.COM.
