Kelly and the KellyGirls
A handful of singers are true performers; the kind that are overtly conscious of every particle of their presence while on stage. Kelly is one of this rare breed. He has true star quality. Simply, he is a born celebrity. The band's unique, raunchy blend of swing, ska and rock reflects the eclectic taste of the band's creator, R. Kelly Clipperton, who is the lead singer, songwriter and driving force behind the Kellygirls, as well as a much sought after photographer, stylist and successful playwright. With a performance style somewhere between Iggy Pop and Mark Almond and a rich baritone voice reminiscent of Nick Cave, Clipperton's flirtatious bravura and darkly seductive lyrics are backed by a 5 piece band including, strikingly, a horn section. Kelly and the Kellygirls are a breath of fresh air, to say the least. The group's unique sound has elements of jazz, ska, rock, big band and even flamenco, with a whole lotta raunch thrown in for fun.
