...doesn't work as well as girls covering guys songs.
i really don't mind.
it was written by a man
i know i have versions of him singing it
i suppose its slightly offensive but accurate to gender lyrics like "i can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant"
girls write crap songs.
superstar by the carpenters is the pinnacle of covers
was singing umbrella ella ella eh eh eh eh today. that sounded alright. not as good, but alright.
It can work really, really well but only if it's done in a "I'm gonna interpret this song in a new & interesting way" kidn of attitude instead of "look at me, I'm being all ironic and hilarious" kind of way.
Jack White's versions of "Jolene" and "I Don't Know What To Do With Myself" work brilliantly for example.
roscoe holcomb covering 'i wish i was a teenage girl again' seals it. although that might have been written by a man. i dont think girls were legally allowed to write songs in those days
