i have a 'chum' who is adamant this is the moment New Order jumped the shark.
i still think it is ace.
I'm yet to hear anything that convinces me that theyre anything better than "meh"
I watched that factory records doc on bbc4 tonight, and its only made me love joy division more.
are genenrally a bit 'meh', as you say, but as a singles band they were ace.
anyway - blue monday is ace.
Their Singles album is terrific, and Blue Monday is great.
makes the "New Order albums are a bit 'meh'" argument, I direct them to Technique.
Brilliant song. No question.
i mean, it's been played continously for two decades, everywhere from hip indie discos to daytime radio, and it still sounds fucking immense.
it's probably their finest moment.
i love 'regret' so hard.
lots of the latter day stuff wasn't AS good, but Blue Monday and Regret are still very strong singles.
Some of that second disc of Substance is great. In particular "Mesh" and "Ceremony"
And caused the single to fall down the charts. The recorded version is ace though - and produced by B.Sumner according to the telly last night
Maybe it's the point at which what was left of Joy Division jumped the shark.
I've never really liked this track that much. I find it totally lacks any heart and I can only appreciate it as a really clever piece of programming and production.
So 80s, and so timeless. Any song that still manages to get ANY dancefloor excited 20 years after its release is doing something right
I still think they slipped in one beat too many at the end of the repeated intro
