Over exposed, arrogant and ultimatley now quite boring.
There. I said it.
but only because he REALLY reminds me of Carlton off the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
the worst human being on earth
one of the best songwriters around right now. I love him.
one of the best songwriters in the world
Liberally sampling obvious hooks from hit records with lyrics like "Heard they'd do anything for a Klondike/
Well I'd do anything for a blonde dyke" doesn't exactly scream "great songwriter".
That makes him awesome in my book.
went on stage when Justice beat him in an mtv video award, took the microphone and said 'they shouldnt have won, i am better because i spent lots of money on jumping out of a helicopter, sorry guys i havent heard you but I AM BETTER'
he is well better than Justice, and if I was him I'd say what I wanted. Fair play.
It is of no surprise to me that there's a general dislike towards Kanye on this forum.
he does do some pretty moronic things, like the aforementioned.
he's a strange one. i do think he's hugely talent and really quite intelligent, but it's all tempered by having a monsterous ego.
I think he's started taking himself to seriously. I quite liked 'Jesus walks' and as it seemed sincere. But now he's just everywhere and the music is, well, uninspiring.
In addition, I keep reading things about him that make him annoy me (see above).
Lol - Apparently he also got one of his entourage to get Naralie Imbruglia's number, when she declined he had a hissy fit and said 'What?! Kanye does not take no for an answer'.
not a musical one
he jumped on stage and said that as he had spent more on his video he should have won.
it was obviously scripted, and that makes him even more of a nob.
he's done some good tunes though.
He has a huge huge ego, but I like how he's a little different in how he approaches songwriting as opposed to other rappers. He doesn't put a beat down and then rap over it, he actually structures it more like a rock song. Kinda how Justice do with dance music.
Also this new track is probably the best thing you can do with daft punk without actually being daft punk.
people slate him for constantly using really obvious samples, and then just takes a few-year-old fairly big hit and fucks around with the groove a bit. s'fun
I just think he's put out a crap album. I absolutely loved College Dropout, but his last 2 albums have left me cold! Yes, he's annoying, arrogant, a male chauvinist etc. but ultimately, he's just pretty average at the moment.
poor rapper. egomaniac. cunt.
That was a quote from his VMA strop last week.
Also - clearly his rapping can't match Jay-Z but the ideas behind his songs, and the rare mix of bravado and vulnerability make up for it, for me at least.
Have you heard Late Orchestration - the live sessions with an orchestra - amazing!
PPS: All those songs you mention are several hundred times better than anything on Kingdom Come.
you're right, he's basically a massive racist. C'mon man it's a dumb award show - gotta have something to liven it up.
PPPS!! Jay-Z did an entire live performance with Linkin Park. The end.
Yeah he's also a copyright infringer!
Please note: Kanye's "Give a black man a chance' hissy fit was from last week's VMAs in the US. Kanye's storm the stage when po faced Daft Punk imitators win award was from the Europe Music Awards last year.
But yeah, enormous racist.
Also: If Toby Keith got up on stage and said "Give a white man a chance" it would be the funniest award show in history.
He's going to make 50 Cent retire. Well for about 10 minutes.
apart from through the wire, that sucks. when it came out and there were all the stories about him singing through a wire, i thought the high pitched squeaky voice was him. singing through a wire...
he is an arrogant twat though, did anyone read the interview with him in observer music monthly? it's fair enough to very carefully construct an image, but he's so self-assured he comes off as a cock.
It actually makes me like him more, I honestly don't understand why people have such an issue with rappers/hip-hop artists bigging themselves up, etc. I'd far sooner listen to someone like Kanye calling themselves the best person in the history of ever, than Chris Martin or someone being a boring knob. If everyone was just really modest pop music would be so much duller.
Kanye is an okay rapper and College Dropout was a good album. The lazy sampling is just supposed to be fun, I don't think it's really that offensive.
Also, any man that has a full orchestra just to play the sampled loops in his live show is good in my opinion.
you're a middle class white boy who wants white boys playing guitars?
Go watch some rugby.
almost as good as his last two albums, which were both properly amazing.
It's pretty funny reading some of the responses to this thread. I don't understand how anyone can see his arrogance as anything other than funny and performative.
he doesn't stop being a cunt when he steps off stage, that's just how he is. That makes me dislike him as a person, and thus hold his music in an even lower regard than I would anyway (which is already pretty low).
the rest = DULL-ATHON
He's really not a very good rapper. He has the same cadence as how you would read a nursery rhyme.
'Golddigger' came on, and a bunch of girls started singing the Ray Charles bit:
"She steals my money!
Its love I need!"
Well this is weird.
The surviving members of Can might make some money at least, but urgh!
kind of like hom for the fact that, after embarrasing himself at the VMAs last year, he's gone and sampled Daft Punk, has overtly electro synths all over the new album and has got So-Me to do his new video.
I could probably take or leave 90% of his music, but homesick has summed up my thoughts on him almost perfectly in his post up there ^ somewhere
His attitude/arrogance is actually pretty funny. He has character, and doesn't take himself too seriously at all (well, most of the time). Yeah, his rant at the VMA's was embarrassing, but also pretty funny
I also like the fact that he seems to agonise over his work - or at least that's the way he comes across in the stuff I've read about him. Plus I thought his comment in a recent OMM about re-doing and re-doing his latest album because it "didn't sound good enough for Timbaland" was surprisingly honest
Kanye West=our generation's John Lennon
supremely arrogant cunt with enough talent to occasionally match this with amazing songs.
still havnt heard Graduation yet, but live he was one of the best things i've ever seen in July.
College Dropout is immense, as is Late Orchestration.
