which city would give you the best day's listening?
NB they have to be CURRENT bands.
simply in so far as that it has more bands than anywhere else so statistically there'll be more great bands there (and more shit bands too but you don't have to listen to those).
Glasgow'd be my second choice.
London isn't allowed to compete was a unified entity, instead New Cross, Clapham, Camden, etc should have to compete on their own against the provincial towns/cities...otherwise it's a bit of an unfair contest.
FOTL, Los Camps, Spencer, Sweet Baboo, that Pagan Wanderer Lu guy, Threaties, Truckers of Husk, and on and on and on the list goes. Plus you can duibiously claim Super Furries and Euros Childs.
And Charlotte Church.
I would chose Portland.
or Edinburugh. Scotland sure does have some brill bands
ESP / Brakes / BSP
Blood Red Shoes
80s Matchbox (?)
Help She Can't Swim
err... Andrej and Tim?
Kemptown International Airport?
foals are from oxford
and i'd say oxford
I'm sure of it.
they shared our rehearsal room for a while.
Might try and shoe-horn Elle Milano in my list though, Brighton label. Strange Death Of Liberal England too, as 20% of them used to live here. Joe Dangerous also, but 100% of him.
after they signed there album deal, they're back in Oxford now.
Brighton bands you forgot:
4 or 5 magicians
Lonely Ghosts (Tom HSCS side solo project)
Fugiya and miyagi (sp?)
The Go! Team
I've forgotten some.
Bat for Lashes
personally i wouldn't go for the most of the current stuff.
but late 70s/early 80s is ace:
David Thomas Broughton, iLiKETRAiNS, Benjamin Wetherill, Fran Rodgers, Paul Marshall, etc
Mogwai, The Twilight Sad, Aereogramme, Orange Juice, Biffy Clyro, Jesus And Mary Chain, Teenage Fanclub.
If it was any in the world I'd choose Austin in texas: ...And you will know us by the trail of dead, Explosions in the sky, I love you but I've chosen darkness, Spoon....
Bury St Edmunds.
Now, theres loads that would be good.
To be honest, I reckon pretty much any sizable city might throw up something good with a bit of Myspace-ing
gaye bykers on acid
the go team
holloways (ok, well the singer is)
fight fire with water
death of london
the freed unit
leicester will steal the bobby mcgees back
hawk and a hacksaw
Just because it would mean I could listen to Jonquil and Youthmovies all day.
Anywhere in the world though would have to be Chicago:
Maps and Atlases
Chin Up Chin Up
Good times :-)
Sweep the Leg Johnny
this should be proportional. As in you'd have to put the combined works of the bands of a city on shuffle and see which city ends up with the best crap:good ratio.
I reckon cardiff would come of that pretty well. there's not much round here that's genuinely shit.
..someone convince me that a good band have come out of reading ever. go on.
You can't go wrong.
and that two piece that you had at your f*ck buttons show in Feb were wicked good.
plus there must have been one decent band somewhere
Oil Red 0
Giant Robot and the City of Tokyo
Grand Prix 86
Kill Yourself, That Fucking Tank, Jupiter Lander, Cowtown, Shittalker, Held By Hands, Brown Owl, Bilge Pump, Tigers, Monster Killed By Laser, Humanfly, Wintermute etc etc etc
oxfam glamour models- kick out the grams ,dartz- st peterbough
das wanderlust-orange shop
we start fires-strut
chapman family- the kids are not alright, the romance-brangins brawl
this aint vegas?
