best British album of the year so far?
I say yes. Great stuff, all the way through.
It's utterly amazing, exactly what I'd wanted to do. I thought they'd go down the VFVD pop-rock for the rest of their career, but they kicked in the opposite direction, and the results are stunning. Suffocation of the soul - "I must admit, I've lost it a little bit", Ambulance, Three Hail Marys and a Short History Of Nearly Everything are far better than anything on VFVD (not that VFVD isn't a decent album) and they'e stretched their range.
As for British album of the year, I'm waiting until I hear Oceansize's new one. Trail of Fire is beautiful.
and the "Girl you better shut your mouth" bit in 3 Hail Marys are my favourite bits of the album. I keep listening to those songs over and over again.
I've said it countless times, but I was genuinely surprised. After VFVD, I was certain they'd carry on releasing albums with diminishing returns, especially when I heard they were doing all the label/promo stuff themselves. Reuben were a band I d/l'd the odd track of. Myself and a friend of mine both heard this off the web and both went out and bought it the next day.
by them to be honest. I probably should.
takes the Best British Album So Far This Year title for me.
But yes, a very very good album from Reuben.
i used to really love them, hated vfvd, and took all the comments on here as a really good sign that it was going to be a fucking great album, but it still sounds a bit dull and grungey and such
and uncatchy and artless and blunt and derivative etc
lets the side down a bit
