On bbc4 now. So far the View have been poor.
That is all.
...maps are making.
I know I'm biased. But it's true.
To have another watch of the great performance Thom Yorke gave at last year's ceremony.
Is Amy Winehouse there?
She performed earlier, don't think its been on TV
But the ceremony started at 7pm so they'll have missed the earlier bits on TV
The View - 2
Maps - 8
Jamie T - 6
NYPC - 6 (9 for outfits)
so so would.
she looked hot on the bbc's coverage of their set at reading. but tonight is about the music.
i want bat for lashes to win... vut my head tells me it will be jamie t or klaxons
..a celebration of British music? If so, I'll start slitting my wrists now.
they haven't decided the winner before the main part of the show. Then right before they choose they watch every band performing, even though the judges aren't allowed to judge it on anything other than the recorded album
Doesn't seem very scientific to me
also Young Knives - 4
They were out of tune and the song was boring.
but natasha khan is h-h-h-h-h-h-HOT!
she has a tache. gutted.
Reagan - 7
she can use it to brush crumbs off of my cock.
Amy Winehouse ?
The view ?
but this is the worst mercury line up i've yet witnessed
nothing of any note whatsoever apart from basquiat strings.
At least maps sound vaguely contemporary?
The View, for fuck's sake
are you forgetting that bloody M People actually WON about 10 years ago?
the other nominations that year were MUCH better
they're such loveable geeks
natasha seems nice. Her music's still shite though
on the above.
playing the flute!
I love her album... Tis majestic. I hope she wins. Agreed on the Young Knives though.
..smacked off her tits.
She didn't look smacked off her tits til she walked off.
truedat. She looked like she didn't know where the hell she was!
why does everyone fall for her bullshit affected billie holiday impression!!!!
Ace album. Can't see it being The View or Klaxons.
of anybody of all time"
jools holland on amy winehouse
to eat babies and shoot up on oxo.
Winehouse - 8
Basquet Strings - 3 (this is balls)
feel the jazzzzzzzzz
ooh and feel the classsssssical vibes
dizee best so far
it was in the wrong board !
But its underground and about as far from the mainstream as you can get so certain people on here will pretend to go nts for it. ;)
About half are pretty much mainstream indie stuff.
fuck off. Some people actually like jazz
That's not a big claim though. Basically they were in tune.
Warning! don't layer up 100 perfectly in tune vocals in the studio if you can't replicate it live
I always had a great time when seeing them live...
Unfortunatley, whenever I see them on TV, I see how appauling they are.
you need to hear it loud. Over the festival season i've seen golden skans live about twenty times on the telly and it ALWAYS sounds feeble
Golden Skans just doesn't work without the harmonies, which they're completely useless at reproducing live
shit live band basically
But if you're fucked, they are a damn good band to have a daft dance and jump around to.
of Dizzee's new album deserve is to be shot out of a canon straight into the sun. I'm in camp Jamie T, 'cos he lives near me and that.
Place your choice for the DiS Mercury Music Prize.
They let you use atms abroad for free!!
creaming over bat for lashes?
Winehouse will win i'll bet you all a million pounds
and her giant mouth
I think it'll be Amy Winehouse.
i hate it when that happens.
I say Maps
the verdict on the official show is unofficial
I was right
I don't hate them, so not too bad considering the rubbish shortlist
man i love that song
or fat for gashes
they're CRYING! lolol
this was already pointed out...but seriously!
to spend on some sweeet ho's
good on 'em. Better than a humble acceptance.
is the spokesman at the mo.
LMAO at 'we started as a joke'
win an award for music, then Britains musical output is now officially below Faroe Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Belgium.
MIA to win in 2008?
she should have won 2005.
But I like Antony and the Johnsons so I wasn't complaining much.
I am a bird now was a pretty good album. Might listen to it later.
Got Pulp "a different class" on now.
To be on the shortlist. Down wiv da Yoof!
their post-win communication was so fucking shudder inducing. One of them was crying, one had his bottom lip about a foot in front of the rest of his face
at least it proves that the judges don't take live performances into consideration
why does the tall one always look like he's abou to cry? why does the little one always say "fuck" and "amazing"? why is the drummer so good?
maybe cos he holds it together the best. i think coke looked to be more of a problem than alcohol to be honest
would have been less embarrassing than that.
IT'S TOO MUCH!!!
it angers me.
I can feel a "crablin rant" coming on.
He's going to come on tomorrow and say something like "klaxons are fucking brilliant, you're all fucking elitist indie fucking cunt wankers fuck you all".
he'll start resorting to personal comments like last time.
Three minutes on the Mercury, and not a single mention of the winner.
I think they were more than drunk....
they seem to be doing that this morning on the news also. Whiney Whiney Whinehouse is all the news. It's almost a shame she didn't win it, just so they could mention that while talking about her. Although that would be more annoying.
I'd never heard the Klaxons before last night(I happily ignore all popular/pap music), and then after hearing their live performance after they won, I had the stupid high pitched singy voice in my head when I went to sleep, grrr. Stupid Mercurys.
I am happy it won. That's all I have to say.
I think that the Klaxons fit into the 'a good representative of their year, but no lasting impact' category such as Portishead, and maybe Badly Drawn Boy.
This is much better than being one of those 'wtf?' winners such as M People or Talvin Singh.
Basically, Klaxons were one of the better acts in a relatively thin year.
I honestly believe that Myths of the Near Future was the most forward-facing, inventive album on that list. It is also an album that has crossed over from its own self-created scene and had an impact upon the British psyche as a whole.
I'm not going to start a Crablin Argument (TM), but I honestly believe it's a worthy winner, a far more interesting choice than Bat for Lashes, Amy Winehouse or sodding Maps and proves to me that the Mercury Prize is actually relevant in a way.
Whether I agree with you or not.
and had you been there at either of their Carling Weekend performances, you'd have realised that they've got the live show down a treat now. They're a tour de force of melody and air-punching glee.
not those cry-baby klaxons...
There's about two actual songs on that LP.
