Please tell me where all this love for Bat For Lashes has come from?
Trophy is great but the rest of the album is dull dull dull dreary balls that conveys no emotion and no soul.
I listened to the album a couple of times and found it an utterly joyless piece of work. And yes I can find joy in the melancholy, but this was beyond me.
I will be very surprised if they win the Mercury.
I'm glad I bought this album with vouchers I got for Christmas and not with real money.
I like the first 3 or 4 songs
then it's just forgettable, to me it sounds like an artist trying to be many more accomplished artists, doing a good if nothing more, of mimicing their sounds whilst never really acieving a sound of her own.
I like to think of her as a Bjork Lite
I like Natasha Kahn's voice and face
and generally like this kind of music. They're good live too although I don't bum them or anything.
If anyone could recommend anything similar and better I'd certainly enjoy that too!!
I guess St.Vincent is kind of similar
just much better
I rather suspect...
...that as she was an outsider, some 'industry' people will have placed bets, then started talking up her chances. She's getting discussed so much that the judges can't fail to have noticed.
there's always been love for natasha.
she's a brilliant performer and her songs are majestic.
ho hum.
^^^^ This
she's awful
style over substance tori-amos lite.
the 'love' comes from the money thats been put into her marketing campaign since she was nominated.
/cynic
When
I saw (the as then unknown to me) Bat for Lashes supporting Low at Koko I thought it was magnificent. Lots of substance as well as style.
when i saw her at ATP
i wondered how she got on the bill. then i realised that people may have voted her on, and i died a bit inside.
at least she wasn't the go! team
or, god forbid, slint.
she wasn't great at atp, but she has been at all other times.
the go team
were amazing at atp, and i hate them.
I saw her in a library in Lancaster
and she was amazing. The library was amazing. I met her after the gig and she was really nice too.
She was
pretty dreadful the year before at ATP as well
That's a good thing though surely...
If the marketing is reaching more people through the 'money' put into it because of the nomination, then it's justified. If people heard it and didn't like it, there wouldn't be any love for her.
I'm sure there's a point in that somewhere...
prize for the person who finds it.
her crazy eye polish?
'crazy'
I feel the exact same way
Very bland. I used to think maybe I was the one with the problem....
What REALLY pisses me off is she get's so much press
because she uses amazing, otherwordly instruments that no-one else has ever heard before, like autoharp or vibraphone. Or even the Banjo!!
WOW!!
They're fucking instruments, that's what you use to play music with. Get over it you bastard journalists
