Modest Mouse tonight. Pretty much everyone. This made me sad. Acceptably elitist?
Trailer Trash to Cockroach to Ashes
That got the biggest response at said gig... maybe this one was different
They finished the (2 song) encore with Cockroach. They played Ashes near the beginning and no one cared. They didn't play Trailer Trash at all.
The song they finished the main set with was actually amazing, but I have no idea what it was. Had lyrics something like "What use is hell when we have ourselves".
I can still realise that their new stuff is a little bit rubbish though.
the new stuff is still way above average.... most of the time... if you dont include Dance Hall and Missed The Boat
I still perfer the Moon & Antarctica to the 2 albums you mentioned although the above 2 have the better songs on it... Good News was a good but flawed album, We Were Dead was more consistent but a tad over polished. The constant band shuffle cant be helping but on the last record more of the core elements were starting to show again... even if it was slight.
M&A>Lonesome>Building Nothing>Long Drive>WWDBSS>Good News>Sad Sappy Sucker
Issaac is trying to bash out lyrics and sounds similar to when he was fucked on drugs all the time, the more sober yet not totally sober issaac just makes little sense both musically and lyrically... still though they arent bad albums and are still enjoyable even if it is for totally different reassons.
for the EP's sake anyways
I have you on last.fm. I see you listening to your fucking ELECTRELANE and your fucking yacht (in lower case because it's already in capitals) ALL THE FUCKING TIME. You're more elitist than everyone, Gareth! You're the most elitist person in the whole fucking world! So I don't need you coming into my fucking thread and saying "Ooh, I out elitist you! Wah wah wah wah wah", and then *assuming* that *that* is the ideal level of elitism to have. And then you have the nerve to tell me that, now you've shared that, not only with me but with everyone else as well, that's the end of the matter? Case closed? Fuck off, Gareth. Just fuck OFF.
gareth's music taste is ace. i have to say this as i pretty much listen to exactly the same stuff.
although i AM more mainstream. i think i listened to YACHT 53 times. :)
but you messed it up :(
That's the word I wanted. Appreciate that their new stuff is a little bit rubbish.
I watched Death Cab in Manchester a couple of years ago. I knew every word to every song, and was chuffed because they played all their best old ones, as well as their best newer ones. But everyone talked through everything that was old. That was pretty irritating.
To be fair though, when I watched Ryan Adams, I wanted to hear older stuff. He only played his stuff I didn't own at the time, and very badly, so I went to the bar and talked to a bloke who turned out to be much more interesting than the aforementioned performer.
Talking over the old stuff! :'(
At least it wasn't the fat roadie playing bass for them tonight. They were rubbish at ATP and Albert Hall in May but tonight was much improved. I think they play better when Isaac has a beard, but that might just be a co-incidence. First three quarters of the set tonight sounded great, even if it was new stuff heavy. Last quarter was painfully dull (i hate the stadium rock ending) and the encore was the best part of the night.
They've never been as good as the first time i saw them, they don't play 'Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine' any more. I heard Marr doesnt like the old stuff?
I thought the whole thing sounded pretty terrible. I was about 2/3 of the way to the front, but the sound was so dull and tinny. Worst sound I've experienced at a gig in recent memory. The band might have been doing a great job, but either way, I found it impossible to appreciate. The only songs I really enjoyed were that last song (apparently "Spitting Venom") and "Doin' the Cockroach".
