Is that El-P? I like that tune.
is that what the kidz are calling Aesop Rock nowadays?
If so, then no. Aesop is v good (and his new album is fucking awesome) but El-P is far better lyrically and is also an incredible producer
like i thought. NOTHING
But Labour days is its superior i think and i'm not entirely sure about El-P's lyrical skillz on I'll Sleep When You're Dead, which is mediocre at best.
I'll sleep when you're dead.
I am looking forward to El-P coming to play work next month though.
no fucking way. Have you read the lyrics sheet? His rhymes are insanely dense and ripe with meaning, and the way he drags it all together is beyond stunning. There are a few missteps along the way but in general it's outstanding.
Aesop Rock's new album is equally dense lyrically but only meaningful about half the time. Most of it sounds pretty cool, but he is in essence the Pavement of the rap world: a load of crazy-assed non sequiters which sound cool but ultimately signify nothing. There are a few quotable lines but they are merely vague grasps at extended meaning. When he draws it together in a more traditionally centred song is when i think he succeeds, but thats not his standard gear. He is, at heart, a shit chatter
To be truthful the new album is the only one of his i've heard in full, but i know enough of his earlier work to have a good idea of where he's coming from
Oh yeah, and El-P's backing music is far superior to Aesop's, which has only recently become better than lame
I dont like the sound of it so why would i get my hands on a copy?
Vanilla Ice > El-P
all i'm saying is that the lyrics are AWESOME and i doubt your knowledge of them if you think "mediocre at best" is an adequate description
It could be fucking Shakespeare for all i care but that doesn't make it listenable. The album is just overly long, a huge disappointment based on Fantastic Damage and no where near as enjoyable as anything Aesop has done. OK!
I doubt your knowledge.
Fuck what i said about lyrics earlier
its about 20 minutes shorter than Fan Dam
On the other points i disagree, but they're fairly subjective (not getting into an argument on "subjectivity in music", but these points are as subjective as you can get). I understand what you're saying about Aesop being more enjoyable to listen to but personally i think that listening to better music is more enjoyable ;)
Dunno, maybe if you spent some more time with it you'd have a different opinion. Its not the most immediate thing ever
Anyway...it depends on what you're into i guess. You are clearly just a miserable bastard, whilst i am obviously high on life. NO, thats not it.
Daz Sampson > El-P
whilst i'm a bag of fresh, handsome wangs. Or something
you won this round
but your right, for the most part he talks complete trash, but not in a bad way as it sounds good.
El-P is better lyrically but on other grounds such as flow and production they are fairly close. El-P edges it for me
*does "raise the roof" action*
Yesiamadick is siding with you. Proves my point. Cheers
just reading the lines should be fine
