i would so do this if i could find a large bearded person.
doing a handstand?
bamos in a month?
but these thing always seem kind of a rip off. They're just a way to get attention to a record coming out and then to not have to pay out for making a video/royalties. For a supposed "indie" band to be doing this is a bit wank. SO I'm downloading the new album.
I realise that makes little sense english-wise but I havent slept for 37 hours.
but as a VERY independent band, they have very very little money for these things and have basically NEVER had a proper video.
denying royalties to the person who made the video if it gets played on mtv or whatever (which it will as this new album is bound to be their best selling yet) is fuxking outrageous
satisfied by the $1000 they will be getting
if a record company were to give bands (non-recoupable) advances and then refuse royalties from their art everyone would be up in arms about it. This is equal to the same thing really. A music video can be as much 'art' or whatever as the song.
if they're intending to use the video for commercial gain, and get it on mtv2 or whatever, then not paying whoever made the video because it was a "competition" is ridiculous. These days "amateur" video makers can make things which look as proffessional as proper studio music promos.
Or take some of Spike Jonze's stuff or the OKGO video - low budget as fuck but pushed musical artists to our attention and so are deserving of MONEY if the band make some as a result and the video gets played everywhere.
I've been over the point
It like in the old days where record companies bought the rights to recordings, so artists ended up being really sucesful and not recieving any of the money, which is a rip off.
but do you really think that this person, let alone any of the band members, will see more than $1000 in royalties, given how little airplay they get?
considering this is going to be the biggest LSF album yet. Never know they could blow up...
I might ask him to do it.
