With a horrible, horrible vocal over the top. They've ruined it
or what. i thought i recognised it, but wasn't sure.
There are so many remixes of that tune floating around that it's sometimes surprising to hear just how slow the original is
Just heard it on the radio. Get your own fucking links, you lazy bag of pony
But what IS it with taking quite the euphoric dance track - Creeps, Exceder, Yeah Yeah (et al) - and whacking an naff female vocal all over it?
in the realms of listener participation and mimicry. By that i mean vocal house/dance has taken the place of diva ballads, soul and general pop as the type of music that people (primarily women) can sing along to. Or if not replaced, has taken it from being music you can listen to and involve yourself with in the car but also dance around to in the club/bar environment (something you can't really do with Mariah or whatever)
A lot of people also seem to like realy crappy "uplifting" vocal performances with "inspiring" and "meaningful" lyrics, and so this has been embraced by dance (from pop) as being a good way to get people to like your music.
Vocals also tend to be a lot more memorable than some vague synth melody (although previously popular music samples can also provide this memorability). Vocals also are a lot easier to hear on less high quality musical equipment, i.e. car or work radio. This is because they tend to be of a higher frequency and so are easier to pick out (espescially over the lower frequencies of engine noise etc.)
There's my long and fruitless answer to what i guess might be a rhetorical question. Oh well..
Hadn't looked at it like that.
(Not being sarcastic whatsoever)
all the time i've spent listening to commercial dance hasn't been in vain
