11 and 13?! Fucking. Hell. I'm not sure whether to be stunned or depressed.
They do, and they're better live. I saw them at SXSW.
For a band in their mid-20s, anyway. For two kids who have barely hit puberty, it's absolutely incredible. I think the most impressive thing is the type of music they make. Really fuzzy and lo-fi. I can't believe anyone their ages would want to experiment with that sort of sound.
Check out Radio Riot.
That's really pretty cool... talented sods.
Really good for kids, but it doesn't juice my juices.
I don't think I've ever heard anything by them, other than one song on 120 Minutes which I didn't really pay attention to. The fact that the first thing you hear about them is always that they're kids makes them seem like a bit of a gimmick band.
and only found out their ages today.
and it was totally bizarre. The boy threw a massive strop at the end due to a mix of dodgy sound / not great performance / lukewarm crowd reaction.
Their songs are pretty good, very good for a couple of kids, I'm not gonna deny that, and good luck to them if they really want to be doing it, but it seemed almost as like they pulled up in a people carrier, got plonked on the stage, then picked up, put back in the people carrier then driven away. Their performance was totally emotionless (apart from the strop at the end). Just struck me as incredibly odd.
Smoosh on the other hand didn't seem like this at all when I saw them, they looked like they were loving it, though admittedly they were probably a couple of years older by then. Plus they have fantastic melodies.
They could be 54, 12 or still in utero, it doesn't make up for the fact I don't like what they do. At all.
They were appalling. It was embarrassing quite frankly.
another go - I saw them in Brighton the other day and they rocked. Perhaps they benefitted from being on tour all the previous week - it is all a learning curve for them after all, right?
and i wouldn't judge them on that performance. they didn't even finish the set.
they were ace at the buffalo bar on saturday.
are baddd, musics good. and im impressed considering their ages yeah.
in that the records are pretty good, but live they seem well out of their depth and not sure what they are doing. I get a real whiff of parents living vicariously through their kids.
