ooooh i went there.
bit starbucks isn't it?
i am listening to Crass.
Better than the third.
although i think it could do without the last two tracks. and a "bit starbucks"? i'd better start going in there more often then.
i've also found much love for the self-titled album recently. MUCH love. the production and layering of the songs is incredible. hotel = woah.
major label debut is probably my favourite BSS track. it's sublime.
noone raves on about it all the time really, its a good album is all :)
Jamie Summers - saying what all the sensible people are thinking.
Not too keen on the early stuff, but Penis Envy is amazing.
but not something i'd really crave to listen to with any regularity. Saying that "kc accidental", "anthem for a seventeen year old girl" and "Lovers Spit" are all great songs in their own right.
scrap that, it is a great album, its just hard to listen to for some reason.
and never mention starbucks in the same sentence as it ever again.
though the first album is arguably better.
tis a very good album
Take that, BSS lovers!
and have you seen them live?
and live (at least the first time i saw them at astoria) they were very good. 6 guitarist at once - was quite unique.
They don't break my top 100, but certainly no need to be throwing shit in their face.
I also like a lot of their offshoot bands, Stars, Dears, Amy Milan, etc...
forum it sometimes seems.
they're okay, just need some better songs. and the most interesting bits are when they're trying to sound like mbv.
they're not the second coming.
At ATP. They were entertaining (especially when J Mascis came on for a guitar duel).
But on record I find them a bit dull.
seen the Magic Numbers so I can't compare, but I enjoyed them at ATP
magic numbers at ATP did you? 'enjoyed' them? YOU ARE SICK
Think on, Jamie.
and did some facesitting?
wordplay bum bum
Face calling egg: back the fuck up
and the Magic Numbers? you suck.
You be trippin
they played the thompson twins at the gig last night. that be some old skool SHIIIIT!!!
I'm the only one who knows who you have and haven't seen at ATP
like I said.
Broken Social Scene: a Magic Numbers for indie scenesters.
but I don't listen to it often.
most people just think they are pretty good, a solid 8/10 band. Having said that that gig at the astoria was one of the most tedious i've been to
it was a bit rubs. last was was better, innit.
and this is reflected in their albums and live performances. Capable of real brilliance in both arenas but you have to wade through a fair amount of guff to get there.
My inconsequential two-penneth:
They have a couple of enjoyable songs.
There's a hell of a lot of filler on their albums.
They're one of the most tedious live bands I've ever seen.
themselves about YFIIP, which means you get a certain type of hipster who toes the party line and raves about them for a while too until the smoke clears a bit. See Clap Your Hands Say Yeah....
It's got a couple of good songs - Anthem For A Sixteen Year Old Girl is pretty special - but a hell of a lot of middling tosh as well.
And i couldn't give two shits to the fact that you/anyone else thinks its overrated.
