compared to their earlier genius.
Well....admittedly, the last album wasn't their strongest but there are some serious moments. By no means have they got shit. Mogwai have got tired and where they were mesmerizing live they now are pretty ho hum. The Mars Volta are still phenominal live!
used to be one of the greatest live bands on the planet. then ego and drugs took over, and they're now one of the only bands on the planet who've made me leave a gig early. its like comparing fragile era yes to rick wakeman's wives of henry viii.
apparently Buck is well aware of their recent indiscretions...
and its only the last album anyway. the two before that were lovely.
Trail of Dead
The fact they only play about 3 or 4 tracks from the last 2 albums at their gigs doesn't scream 'denial' to me.
because he was always shit. GUFFAW.
I joke, not heard their newer stuff to be honest.
The new trail of dead/REM albums are going to be very good though...
Who's just had acclaimed and highly regarded album. Not really a decline is it?
The way Idlewild are now compared with how they used to be makes me weep.
Noel told me. He's a brilliant songwriter don't you know?
Arrogance and tabloid inches doesn't mean you're the best band in the known universe.
Definitely Maybe was (and is) a great album.
I'm not sure it's great. Shakermaker's on there apart from anything else.
as that they haven't really moved on since Deserter's Songs and the last albun treaded water a lot. It had a couple of great songs but it just felt like they were doing the same thing all over again.
i'm firmly in the 'it was total rubbish' camp.
and deserters songs is practically the blueprint for how music should sound. imho. so :(
if they'd made three Deserter's Songs(es) it wouldn't be so bad - instead they made All Is Dream which was so-so, and that awful last one.
i want them to make another album as good as See You On The Other Side, but it's not likely.
haven't moved on since an album they made 9 years ago - they're pretty shit in my book.
Back to my Oasis argument....
....was a shit-load better than All Is Dream
Been listening to See You On The Other Side recently. Lovely album.
I agree with the rest of your list.
I would add Manic Street Preachers.
no denial needed.
manics deffo, metallica?,
were the first that came to mind for me.
Or it should have been, anyway.
can't believe that didn't occur to me.
out of it for a while. The last album they should have made was Everything Must Go. Purists will say Holy Bible but I thought EMG would have been a nice bow out.
shurely they most know they are shit now though????????
was probably their best since black and blue.
They're probably all so senile and fucked up now that they think they're the "shit", when the only shit they've got ... I stop there.
Doesn't help that NME keeps mentioning that story about Keith snorting his dad every goddamn week.
YEAH YOU HEARD ME
Also: probably morrissey
having recently got into the smiths i think hes a genius, or was. The little ive heard of his solo stuff isnt very impressive, though its admitedly very little. His earlier stuff is good, but "irish blood english heart" was rubbish. Not heard the latest album.
I agree with you on RHCP. It might be worth mentioning Pearl Jam here, who are so much in denial that all they do now is release 300 live albums a year and nothing else, because they know they'll never make any new fans.
but blood sugar sex magik is where its at
his last 3 albums have been AMAZING
Oh no you didn't!!? Oh yes i did. thats right. flashes of genius but nothing really substantial after love is hell.
was the start, and the peak, of his 'lets be the grateful dead' phase, but unfortunately it's gone from a lot of fun to a lot of boring.
They've found a rut doing the 'good stuff' where they now simply tread water - but do it so badly they've fallen right back down again. Same as RHCP.
the most hyped third album ever. its sad that the world failed to notice that it was just like the second album but not as good.
but I noticed, andrewviolet.
but the three weeks after that album came out really tested my faith in popular culture.
in regards to SFA and especially Eels. blinking lights was the best eels album since electro-shock.
I've just researched and found out they released something called Hey Venus that I've never even heard of. Hmmm.
i think it might be.
not out yet. its great!
but you are a horrendous human being.
your detection of ironic banter metre is clearly on the blink
at the light hearted internet banter!
what does that make me?
Although, without sounding like a twat, I didn't really like anything after their first single collection.
Were Stereophonics or Marilyn Manson ever good?
Although, I did sort of like Stereophonics' "More Life in a Tramps Vest".
an amazing album!!
vv blonderedhead are still good just different to how they used to be vv
and mechanical were incredible LPs. live he is always good.
are not even a shadow of what they once were...
Blonde Redhead ( ooooh controversial... )
It really is.
first 4 tracks are OK, the rest is boring !
for Bloc Party to save themselves....
Have always been a bit up and down. I reckon "Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons" is their only really solid album even though I liked a lot of songs they did prior to that. Haven't given up on them yet, despite their last two albums not doing anything for me.
23 was unlistenable pour moi
I'd say The End and Fear Before the March of Flames. And the last Everytime I Die album blew goats.
unless they're either dead or split up. Every act has a creative peak and trough.
the kings of dull mediocrity.
No, hear me out............
Weapon Called the Word: Great lyrics and some great songs.
Levelling the Land: Even better lyrics, lots of amazing songs.
The Levellers: Mediocre lyrics, some pretty decent songs.
