sound-wise, size, etc?
The sound is usually very good, but loud. Capacity is something like 800 for gigs. It has terraces and balconies, so even if you are further away you can have a good view. No bar in the main hall. Usually a long queue to get into the venue, as the door staff are velvet rope people. Easy to get to, as it is next door to the Kings Cross Thameslink and very near the mainline/tube station as well.
i saw Red Sparrowes there which destroyed my ears :(
but it's a good venue and you can usually see and hear everything well.
on the right and take it in turns to go to the loo or bar it's best, otherwise you get trampled, shoved, drenched in beer and you can't see. Otherwise it's great.
In the end they went with someone else as the support act but apparently not too many people turned up anyway so it wasn't any great loss.
This concludes the least interesting and relevant anecdote in world history.
I saw kristen hersh there a while back and the sound was crystal clear (usually in a largeish venue an acoustic act, even one as big as her, can get lost in a drone of people chatting over the top but everyone could see and hear, it was great)
I almost lamped someone for smoking near my just-pregnant wife though, a tad over protective...
I'm thinking of seeing the locust when they play their in September and I wanted a heads up on the venue. I'm a bit worried about ruining my hearing though, as the locust are know to be very loud. :S (I have earplugs!) What are the drinks like? Surprisingly expensive?
and as someone said up there, there's no bar in the room where the bands play.
prevents chatters during quiet gigs
have I been there? Is it the place 'chalk' was at.
That night at least it was like the seven levels of hell. Trudging round in the dark looking for something interesting and being too wasted to hear any music
for club nights is a complete different story. And Chalk got the thumbs down from almost every one.
though that's mainly because it doesn't get huge crowdsa anymore
The music policy seems to be stuck in 2001 though
but airless lots of coming and going during sets due to bar arrangements.
the sound was really bad, plus it was freezing cold! less_than_zero works there so he probably knows best. Even though his last.fm charts are simply awful.
will people please STOP standing on the stairs! Idiots.
cos Im gay for britpop
hopefully its better than chalk
actually chalk wouldve been alright if it wasnt full of twats
drink is ridiculously expensive though
and its too fucking clean for seeing bands in. which is why i dont want to see 80's matchbox there. itll just feel wrong.
