Listening to Morrissey 'Your Arsenal' at the moment. His finest hour methinks
/ Bona Drag
Although it isnt better than prime Smiths.
in my opinion.
..and I don't care who knows it, it's great!!
Its big, fat, stomping, dangerous and flirtatious
I don't think his follow-up to those albums, You are the Quarry was much better.
It was just he was back in favour with the press.
I doubt he'll hit the peak of '93/94 again.
I would argue that he should change his backing band as musically it's gone a bit stale.
I still believe his best is yet to come. I really don't understand people who dismiss the last two albums. I disagree with the idea that musically it's all gone stale. Visconti bought a different edge to the last album, however I do hope he doesn't produce the next one. The great thing about Morrissey as a solo act is that his backing band have been around for so long that it's almost as if they were all just in a band anyway.
it's just that the music is a little safe and maybe stifles his creativity. I appreciate he's getting on a bit and maybe doesn't have the bite lyrically of his earlier years, yet I would like to see him branch out in new ways.
I don't mean in a Bjork way, but why not do an album of piano torch-songs like Billy MacKenzie? I think he has the voice to carry off more interesting ideas. The vocals in Beirut aren't dissimilar at times to Moz, for example so why can't something new and different work?
My brother puts us through the torture of his boring solo career every time we play poker.
I love his attitudes though, towards things like patriotism and rap.
You should listen to Smiths songs like
A rush and a flush and the land is ours
Pair is a light that never goes out
Sorry, but it's Friday and I'm about to GO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!
