Very, very good so far.
'Jimmy' is both brilliant and hilarious.
and/or anything as HOTTT and obscene as Hombre?
She sings about getting the said person to bed to an 80's pop beat.
"your loving gets me crazy"... :D
maybe the weakest track on the album, but unfortunately in the right circumstances I can see it being a huge hit.
by someone out of Transcargo ( www.myspace.com/transcargo )
What kind of music is 'Kala'?
Sort of this wonderful mixture of really really political lyrics, grime, Brazilian ghetto funk, punk rock, really hot hip-hop and other ace stuff.
and on her last album, lyrics ranged from the Tamil Tigers and PLO to saying to boys "I can get squeaky so you can come and oil me."
She is one of my favourite people ever
it says on the myspace page that his producing appeared on Arular.
she even covers 'Where Is My Mind' by The Pixies. :D
by The Clash. Indie-reference-tastic!
Dunno why I got that confused.
Arular was an incredible album (except for URAQT)
this is incredible aside from Timbaland ruining 'Come Around'.
that song rocks
Arular is genuinely in my top 5 records of the past decade. Every song is perfect. Judging by what I've heard of this one she's going to repeat that.
I try not to get too involved in the political aspect of her lyrics as I know she's a raving terrorist supporting loon but her music is the best kitchen dancing music ever.
but didn't get a chnace to put it on my walkman :(
So I'm listening to arular which I forgot was this good and looking forward to going home.
I couldn't find it anywhere online last night.
the chorus vocals and melody are just very annoying.
I think its because it was produced by someone different to the rest of the album. In my opinion you can really see the difference in quality
I agree with her views on Palestine.
I can't beleive Afrikan Boy is on this album! His verse is hilarious "I'm illegal, I don't pay tax tax / EMA? I'm claiming dat dat"
The album sounds incredible after a couple of listens, a nice mix of straight up bangers and weirder slower numbers.
XR2 has got those Baile Funk horns going on, but not so much on other songs.
It has more of an african/indian vibe on alot of songs.
is as Bmore as it gets?
...track 8 - is produced by Blaqstarr and actually a reworking of his bmore club hit 'hands up thumbs down'.
the song tagged as 'down river' on promos is, as noted above, actually 'world town'.
It sounds like it's gonna be good.
tracks I've heard so far sound great.
She plays with a lot of styles on this record.
two nights at Fabric this month.
i found Arular pretty patchy, but Kala, even though it dont have the obvious "hits" of the debut, seems more consistent, and the production is a lot more interesting.
judging by the other people on the lineup its much more likely to be the electronic MIA on sub static
I was a bit confused.
Thought "Bamboo Banga" (based on Jonathan Richman's "Roadrunner") was pretty CRAP!
Don't think it's fair to the album to play it not very loud in the office while doing work ...
tonight. Sounds more like Boredoms than JR. God, this Bird Flu is so awesome.
Wait til you hear Jimmy and Mango Pickle Down River and 20 Dollar and Hussel and Paper Planes.
The girl is genius.
mag- It's lush. She is incredibly beautiful as well as being awesomely talented. I swooned.
Boredoms, Tom Waits, Tricky, Missy E. yessss please
Boredoms, MIA, Tom Waits, Tricky, Missy E
THAT IS LIKE SOME SORT OF MUSIC HEAVEN?!
is that Pixies lyrics?
to a sample of Blue Monday, and interspersed with references to the cost of rifles in Africa
brilliant fantastic album. Just listened to it two times through. Fantastic.
She should have finished it on that Paper Planes tune though.
not musically, just in general:
the first album
which the spelling of i can't remember in this state.
That is fantastic.
And yes, she is a genius
