So I'm coming home to Brighton for the week and was wondering if anyone could reccomend any decent gigs coming up???
Of Montreal + Pull Tiger Tail at Audio on the 3rd of August but if you just said a week, you're probably not around for that.
And unless you like The Bravery...nothing else.
I dunno what else dude im sure the is something =)
I haven't been to the Gloucester/Barfly as a venue yet, where on earth have they put the stage?!
I dunno! =D
im going tommorow
the stage is at the very end of the room beyond the dance floor. It's okish, they haven't changed much, except for the Barfly banner.
That must be a bit small and mishaped, for band and crowd? Then again my memories of said venue are a bit distorted by the old gloucester tuesdays (?) when snakebite was £1.50 and shots 50p. Mmm mmm
there was just enough room. Yep my memories of the Gloucester mainly involve drunken dancing.
Twin Thousands - http://www.twinthousands.com
Joe Dangerous - http://www.myspace.com/joedangerous
im gonna be there!
there's lots on...
Still, if you're around for Of Montreal, it's a must.
I'm sorted, actually looked at the listings and just found out that McFly are playing at Sussex cricket ground on Saturday.
Actually seeing as I could hear Elton John from my bedroom window last year at the same venue, this could in fact be inescapable/disastrous/plain mean.
u dont live in the same block of flats as me do u?
what? oh yeah probably not though where I live will soon be a block of flats if the 'houses' nearby are anything to go by.
with the huuuge gardens
I live opposite the church =D
everytime I go home there's another one, another oldhouse closer. One day they'll take both nextdoors and we'll be doomed.
I'm on the other corner of the ground, give or take half a street.
as in i walk past pissed =) sorry for any marks
What, do you go to the Palmeira on a slightly lopsided crawl into town?
and im attracted by glass flats
i'll be passing by tonight haha
you go, past the entrance of the cricket ground, round the corner up palmeira avenue, right at cromwell road, drink at palmeria, then up to seven dials, over seven dials, drink at Belle vue, and THEN drinks in town?
That's a bit too hilly for me. Before we discovered we had legs a friend and I always had a cheeky drink at the Palmeria before running for the bus.
Now it's straight down Holland Road and along Western Road and its delights.
cept I dont drink at belle vue
I've only been in the once. It was very quiet. With candles. And not so Belle.
cable club at the pressure point
with 'flies are spies from hell', 'everyone to the anderson' and 'henry chinaski'
its gonna be party-tastic
amazing. i'll be there!
im going to buy a ticket this weekend
I always forget about that. The Audio can never make its mind up over age restrictions!
There are ways to sneak in though...
then it will be over 18's only though unless you do look REALLY young they neverr ID u if u have a ticket at a midweek show.
looks wicked purely for the band names. What sort of stuff is it?
The Cable Club gigs I've been to there are usually pretty ace so will probs try this one. Eighties Matchbox, always brilliant, happy memories.
oh yes I am!
shall we, though?
might be tricky with the smoking ban?
a stake protuding from the Pressure Point, with a 'Ben' tied on, On Fire. ?
It's outside so its OK.
Eugene McGuiness is supporting Of Montreal, which would make that gig pretty much the best lineup ever. I'm trying to convince someone to sneak me in, it's 18+.
You can sneak in via. the upstairs in the pub.
Although it's obviously not guarenteed to work every time.
Need someone on the inside to open the door for you though.
and I could have done it for Metric, because we found ourselves inside the venue very early, but we had tickets anyway, got bored, and queued up. Sounds silly. Was.
Eugene Mcguinness, Pull Tiget Tail & of Montreal!!!!!!
I HAVE TO GO!!
pull tiger tail as far as i know
Reckon it's both!
i blame my friend for not paying me back for 3 weeks straight as the reasson i'm now not going =(
I guess i'll see you at Battles!
From The Horse's Mouth...
Of Montreal is not sold out, but very near...
You can still get tickets from
Resident Records 01273 606312
Rounder 01273 325440
They do phone bookings, as all online vendors are now sold out
Just To Confirm it is:
OF MONTREAL W/ Special Guests
PULL TIGER TAIL
18+ (Sadly, I Wish it could be 14+)
LOVVERS are playing somewhere or other on Friday. I've not heard of the venue, but I googled it and they reckon it's FREE.
Any idea where it is?
that's odd. I might try and go to that, though.
It's on London Road.
tonight - either shiny toy guns or to Twin Thousands, Joe Dangerous, and the Florists at the Hope
tomorrow - eighties matchbox
thurs - shall we set ben on fire at the pressure point
fri - lovvers playing somewhere on london road
sat - sleep
sun - vessles
a week friday - sneak into of montreal at audio
it all sounds rather ace to me
Though you forgot being forced to listen to McFly on Saturday due to proximity. Though I guess that just applies to me.
Or maybe you meant sleep = McFly?
IUm going to twin thousands and eighties matchbox
sorry duck. Clearly we should have a very very loud party to compensate
I remember the elton john saga, it was pretty amazing how much I could hear considering im not AMAZINGLY close to the ground
saga it was. My sister had a party that day and we made up for it with Pimms related cocktails. Back when it was SUNNY for longer than half a day.
Cloud comming over now =( tres lame
As I'm clearly undereducated & inferior I don't know 'Of Montreal.' Comparisons anyone?
Listen to the whole new album here:
to your favourite band, except they're better
Go see Lovvers at The Cowley Club on Friday. It's a private members socialist club though so you'll have to sign up or something, I'm not sure how strict they are these days. It's next to the old Sainsbury's on London Road, above a shop.
Also, next Wednesday, 31st, if you are still here, go and see Esiotrot and Yuchi at The Greenhouse Effect on the Brighton / Hove border. Two of my friends bands and both great!
but the greenhouse effect is natoriously hot, rather fitting actually
glad you didn't blink! We've got another little live review in next months too, so look out for that when you're sitting in the penthouse and its your turn to save the seats while the others pop out for a cigarette!
Our next Brighton gig is 24th September at the Pressure Point as part of Brighton Live week. What about you, still haven't made it down to one of your gigs yet!
so allow me!
We're also playing the Pressure Point for brighton Live...on the Friday so I'm guessing that's the 28th.
We'll hopefully be able to come down and watch you guys on the Monday - sweet!
shame on you / them for rejecting the song we sent! Tut tut... though I suppose you / they did play The Victorian English Gentlemans Club who we played with so i'm sure it served it's purpose!
