After liek totally digging Bonde Do Role and M.I.A I want to know:
-Good baile funk!
-Good blogs on baile funk!
They seem to lack that harder hip-hop/miami bass thing I really dig in Baile Funk.
You should check Diplo's compilations. I think Favela on Blast was put up on the web for free, it might still be floating about.
Also this blog is ok: http://www.riobailefunk.blogspot.com/
And this song is immense: http://www.zshare.net/audio/2632104a191090/
If you want to be an ubergeek you could repeatedly point out that the music is really called funk carioca and that a baile funk is actually a funk party. I genenerally find that this sort of oneupmanship comes in very handy for dinner parties and getting girls.
There's a great compilation from about 3 years back that has a lot of the classics - Funk Carioca, on Slam Dunk records.
One of the downsides of getting it is, however, that your respect for Diplo's production skills plummets as you realise where he nicked half of MIA's beats from.
Hello everyone by the way.
Really get girls. See, I think there is some sort of contradiction in musical pedantry and guns, bitches and bling...
and not being able to spell generally. That's the clincher in these situations.
Resonance FM used to have a really good weekly funk carioca show - not sure if it still does. Look out for mixes from DJ Marlboro too. He's the most famous Brazilian funk DJ, but quite mainstream in what he releases now.
