Much maligned band but actually rather good i think. Anyone agree?
some of their stuff was utter bollocks, but they had some lovely ballads like 'you're the best thing', and paul weller wouldn't be where he is now without doing that new romantic stuff
well except his new stuff, which sounds like the jam played by an old man, which is very true
My girlfriend in college certainly loved SC. Style Council, tacos, and pecans praline ice cream though not necessarily in that order.
I don't think Weller's work suffered much from Jam to Style Council. Still workmanlike "pretty good".
(Sharp DiSers will notice I am not included in the list of Melinda's past loves. Meh.)
when it came to soul with a punk attitude.
i think highly innovative in their '''style..
...Long Hot Summer
You're The Best Thing
Shout To The Top
Headstart For Happiness
My Ever Changing Moods
The Whole Point of No Return
It's A Very Deep Sea
The image was a bit dodgy though. All that French nonsense
Like, I'm obviously aware of The Jam and their status and 'significance' and all that crap. And you see Weller about now, still with that haircut and bashing out Town Called Malice
But I have practically zero knowledge of the Style Council, aside from You're The Best Thing. How did he go from The Jam to that? I mean, it's alright I guess. But it's quite a departure, isn't it? Or isn't it?
I have trouble getting my head around how he ended up making music like that
I think a lot of Jam fans at the time felt exactly the same! However, if you listen to the very late Jam stuff (Town Called Malice, Beat Surrender, Bitterest Pill) it isn't THAT big a leap to the Style Council stuff. There was a lot of pretnetious crap surrounding the image of the Style Council but the songwriting was still top notch.....for the first two years anyway.
to hear the 'ibizi summer of love album' the style council did at the end of the 80's but never got released, i'd imagine it is truly awful.
You CAN hear it! It was released as some sort of box-set years ago.....i think
