You Set the Scene. End of thread?
This is why Doolittle is the best album ever.
firstly, Gouge Away is a good ending to Doolittle, but certainly not the best. Silver is a far superior choice (as the "original" tracklisting would suggest)
also, Surfer Rosa is about 5 times better
And I don't even mean that in a relative way; it's just a terrible song, full-stop. Having it at the end of the album would have completely ruined it for me. Also, the fact that Gouge Away gives Doolittle such a big ending is a large part of the reason why I think it's such a *good* ending, as opposed to the standard slow-things-down ending it would have had if it had finished on Silver. ALSO: http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/2196402#r2197088 Best beginning + best end = best album. Maybe.
really, it isn't
maybe if you prefer the more hooky stuff on Doolittle you might say this, but if you do that i have absolutely NO respect for your musical preferences
Silver is a superb mood piece which would be perfectly suited as an album closer. I understand what you're saying about it being too obvious as a last track, but as a part of the whole "original" tracklisting its perfect
I just hate Silver (and Here Comes Your Man a little bit).
but most people i've met who dislike Silver are complete penisfarmers
Mr November's a better album ending.
I Didn't Understand. By Elliott Smith. On XO. That's it. I've decided.
I'm hard pressed to disagree... even though I do. I can think of three dozen songs off the top of my head (admittedly ten of them are on 70s Bowie albums) I prefer.
