After all these years it's still the best album I own.
That, Fevers, and IWAIM.
Possibly Digital Ash, too.
but sure Lifted is his defining moment. No?
I go through phases of Lifted, Fevers and IWAIM being my favourite. I find them all incredible, 10/10 pieces of work, but for different reasons.
Lifted and fevers and mirrors are my favourite, genuine 10/10 albums for me, but I find digital ash and iwaim sort of patchy. digital ash less so than iwaim, but still. They dont seem to flow as well as the others and some songs stand out as being not as good.
I think Lifted is his only 10/10 album, hence the masterpiece remark.
Lifted, Wide Awake and Digital Ash are all near-masterpieces but I think he's yet to deliver his masterpiece. Cassadaga makes me fear it might never happen.
While I love all his albums, Lifted is the only one that excites me on every listen, and properly gets under my skin. Also, it perfectly flows from start to finish.
but I love this album
And I usually am not fond of any single album that clocks in at over well 60 minutes.
But it got me into Bright Eyes and looking back at their discography now, it's still their benchmark. Especially Let's Not Shit Ourselves.
is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Conor at his brilliant best.
though i don't own fevers and mirrors, i suspect that it can't top lifted in my mid, which is completely majestic
have an utterly massive soft spot for Letting Off The Happiness...
a sprawling fucked up record for a sprawling, fucked up age. i love it to pieces.
If you ask me it's all gone downhill since his brilliant debut single which incredibly was released before his actual birth......
I love Bright Eyes, but the best Conor Oberst album is still Read Music/ Speak Spanish
unless he has something really spectacular planned
