The musical legacy of my favourite festival has been pissed all over.
all the cool people who work for it being fired and the rest choosing a lot of rubbish this year?
Well, not exactly what happened, but yes.
It really isnt much different from every other year though is it?
Truck has never had headliners that youd think WOW! about.
Thats last years line up. Apart from having Battles and 65dos it doesnt really look much better than this years does it?
plus other people that i'm not a fan of but are certainly more high profile than this year...get cape etc
If you want high profile go to Reading/Leeds surely?
ATP Vs The Fans has spoiled us all.
just a slightly more interesting bill with a couple more highlights. idlewild are well past their sell by date and although i'm a huge fan of the band, garth hudson and his wife might not exactly be a great festival closer.
they've deffo made a decision to keep things a bit more low-key this year. But it's not that different from the line up from the previous year, or the one before that.
has to mean being lazy when booking headliners. it almost seems like they didnt plan ahead and had to settle for the two they've got as a last minute thing.
but their has been a lot of internal wrangling, and the decision has been made to go a bit smaller scale
Futureheads aside, and Idlewild are probably bigger than them.
that pagan wanderer lu didn't get asked to play.
i have contacted said individual. I await a response.
a q and a with sean adams!
i take it all back, i can't wait for truck.
"yeah, hi sean - like lol!!" . damn, it's gona be epic.
what? what does sean adams know about diy? haha, that's amazing.
a mean bookshelf.
he's a wizz with his (cat) power drill.
wanna sell your tickets?
and lethal bizzle added to the bill recently. hmm.
I'm drinking at Truck.
am i going to have to perform my legendary 'reading the funny bits from mills and boon books' show?
i hope so.
that'll be fun for about 5 minutes
he's an underground legend. i wish.
He was in More Fire Crew who helped start the whole grime bizznizz and 'Oi' is a total tune.
Alot of people in the scene look up to him. His success with 'Pow' shows that undiluted grime can make it big.
"I can't hate pow / That was a hit / Even if the main verse was nicked off God's Gift"
why is 'Jack Penate'?
and two notable FUCK OFF AND DIE YOU SHIT BASTARDS.
and play Independent Scrutineer all the way through for you if you want? Well, I'll sing it. I'm sure someone can play guitar for me.
well. it's not them specifically. being a bit poo in itself is not a crime. having a guitarist who is a massive flagellum of a human being is much worse.
there is a notable omission of a band who are wrapping up their tour in camden the next day...
'special guests'? no, no, no, they wouldn't... would they? no.
Nope. Any more clues?
i asked their tour manager.
smashing my dreams before they can build up and destroy me when they don't happen
was jack penate
says it all really.
oh well, truck's never really been that much about the lineup anyway.
loads of great things, and the usual Oxford discoveries. And it's a damn sight better than the year when Biffy Clyro! and the Magic Numbers! headlined.
and if this bill is better than a year where patrick wolf owned the truck stage mid-afternoon, then i'll eat my own ass.
essentially 75% the same stuff that's been on every year for the past few years.
most of the bands on the bill will be big NEXT year. Why the fuck would you want bands like Idlewild, The Futureheads et al anyway? I wouldn't. I steer well clear of Truck's headliners.
iLiKETRAiNS or Euros Childs could do this year.
I really can't see any difference. The headliner is a band who have released two of my favourite albums ever, they've got an exciting American coup with Josh T Pearson, loads of good famous bands like Bamos mentioned above. I don't see what's wrong with it at all.
Cub Scoutwill own my face.
It's all about NervousTestPilot. But I actually think the lineup is pretty decent. Had I got tickets, I would be heading for Chris T-T, ILikeTrains, Clipz, Winnebago Deal, The mighty Rock of Travolta, Outl4w, Youthmovies, Fonda 500, NervousTestPilot, Undertheigloo, Rachael Dadd, bugger... I'm gutted I didn't get a ticket. Anyone want to sell me theirs?
between this years line up and last years. I think they're both a bit crap but there's enough stuff to keep me amused.
Is that "the" John Power?
he played a few years ago.
when i say 'played', i mean he turned up on the acoustic stage at about 2am on saturday night and attempted to play some covers, but couldn't because he was so drunk.
about the apparent 'sackings'. they should of got me to do the art again though, but nooooo plan b are doing the guide (not jealous in the slightest...ahem)
the only thing that puzzles me is the upping the price of the tickets. yes it's for more police officers, but it's on the same ground as last year, so it's the same amount of people coming in. was last year riddled with crime, i certainly didn't notice anything. they want to keep it small scale, so that means upping the amount we (well not me, as i'm not going) pay for it?
the line up's alright though, fuck buttons, blood red shoes, jonquil, future of the left, gravenhurst...
The line up looks alright, there's enough there to keep me amused anyway.
Truck has never been the festival of choice anyway if you want to see loads of great bands. It's about having fun in a great atmosphere and seeing some decent music, maybe nothing groundbreaking but it's usually fun and soundtracks the weekend well.
If you want to see loads of famous names you go to Reading.
It makes me wonder who people were expecting this year.
From the scale of disappointment expressed in some quarters you'd think that they were hoping for Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Weezer, Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse, Superchunk, Sebadoh, Les Savy Fav and fuck knows who else!
Truck = Truck Records roster + Oxford scene bands + Oxfordshire curiousity acts + Friends of Truck (Chris T-T et al) + a few better known acts (Idlewild and BJM this year) + a few next big thing types + a liberal sprinkling of assorted weirndess.
Result? 48 hours of aceness.
and they'll be taking it in turn to patrol two at a time so nothing to worry about.
I've never seen them in the actual campsites.
is rubbish though. So rubbish.
Well, everyone is going for the eco thing now aren't they?
It's the new black.
I'm quite surprised at this as I always thought Colin would be one of the people who gets the point of the Truck Festival. Sadly not as it turns out.
The line up this year is terrific. Last year had quite a few more mainstream acts but they weren't what made the festival great. The regulars are always the highlights and most, if not all, of them are playing this year. The atmosphere is also always fantastic (better than any arts event I have ever been to) and will obviously be fantastic again this year.
Using the term "musical legacy" is quite frankly ridiculous as it's a fun weekend with lots of cute electro-pop bands and a few crazily talented people thrown in. It's been my weekend of the year for the past 4 years and this year will no doubt be the same.
So yes, I think you're just trying to be cool and elitist. And failing.
even if your name makes me think of muse
I don't think I've even heard the song. Is it any good? A friend used to say my name reminded her of it as well.
but i like muse. it's not their greatest song, but it's on their best album, so yeah.
there's a reason why i'm not going to truck...
And that's because I'm seeing Daft Punk and Sonic Youth in America!
How could you!?
I'm pretty excited.
I am playing after all!
albeit an semi-official acoustic slot in piney gir's knitting for freedom tent, or something....
*notes Junkplanet 2 in top friends, pauses for perhaps too long a moment*
you're a right twit.
wasn't thinking x
does this mean that there'll be a handful of utterly perplexed Scum readers wandering about in Le Coq Sportif shellsuits trying to find out what stage The Twang are on?
I hope so!
Veruca Salt (post Nina's exit)...what do you think?
I like the third and fourth albums, but, I just can't think of them as being the same band.
Shall we move the bulk of this onto an all-purpose Truck thread in Festivals?
were three of the defining indie singles of my teenage years.
I thought that 8 arms to hold you had some really strong songs on it, but, was massively overproduced, it lacked the edginess that American Thighs had.
This will my third Truck.
Tried to get tickets for Truck 6/7 too, but, I was too slow off the mark.
I think there'll be lots of DiS types going.
the only problem is that it's a little rubbish because there are only two of us on it due to the fact that Truck aren't linking to it from the 'This Is Truck'homepage.
Check it out in all it's not very active glory:
Does anyone know what is happening with the Barn Stage this year? Looking at the line-up it can't possibly be as big as it has been? Can it? If it is it may be a little empty for most of the weekend. Is it going back to the smaller version it used to be?
I think the Trailer Park tent is going to be ridiculously busy this year.
The Trailer Park line-up is impeccable and P-C is a hero as ever.
